Lacing them up at any position for Cedar Hill High School is a big deal, especially at quarterback. During Kaidon Salter’s junior season, he guided the Longhorns on a 9-3 journey against 6A Texas squads with a high-powered offense that averaged 40 points per game. The four-star prospect hit on 62 percent of his passes covering 1,727 yards with 15 touchdowns. Another key aspect to his game that came alive, his dual-threat abilities. Holding off until later in the season, the 6-2, 185-pound, field general kept drives alive rushing 54 times for 278 yards with six trips into the end zone. The college football world has responded to his abilities.

With 25 offers on the table and an offseason filled with workouts to push his game to that next level, I caught up with one of Texas’ best for an RNG interview.

Interview

Kaidon, you were airing it out for Cedar Hill last year within the team’s Spread offense. What was working so well allowing for the big season?

“Well, of course my feet and legs were helping me the most at getting me out of trouble. That was helping my wide receivers being able to have a longer time to get open and downfield.”

The strength of your arm was on full display last season, and they were coming in hot. How did you work with your receiving corps over time to get on the same page with chemistry and so they could catch your passes?

“I grew up with all the Cedar Hill wide receivers. We’ve had chemistry since we were kids. But after a while we split up, and ended up back with each other. It felt like that chemistry never left a bit.”

You guys ran a lot of vertical routes, what were some of the intermediate and short passes you were hitting last season?

“I’ve hit a lot of short passes such as cross routes, quick slants, speed outs, etc.… But the speed of my receiver corps, they were able to get downfield and burn their defensive backs with no doubts. So, the vertical routes worked perfectly. Why stop doing what the defense couldn’t stop?”

What coverages were you seeing when you dropped back?

“My main coverages were to read the distance from the corner to see if they drop to a double-team with the safety or if it is one-on-one coverage.”

How do you feel you pushed your overall game to another level last season?

“I pushed my game by starting to use my legs more, which I saved mainly for playoffs. I have the ability to scramble to find the open receiver.”

What are you working on this offseason?

“I’m working on getting the ball out faster, which playing 7-on-7 is helping me with that problem.”

Are you attending any national and/or college camps coming up?

“I was supposed to be going to a Rivals and an Under Armour camp before the Coronavirus stopped them from happening.”

How many offers do you have now?

“25.”
