The world of college football has fallen in love with the talents of Jayden Denegal, and for good reason. Denegal was throwing darts around the yard last season for Apple Valley High School completing 66 percent of his attempts covering 2,260 yards with 34 touchdowns accounted for and one visit to the end zone on the ground. The 6-5, 217-pound, field general has four-star recruiting status attached to his talents along with nine D-I college football offers with top programs across the country paying close attention.

With an impressive offseason workout regimen ongoing ready to impress yet again, and a long list of potential recruiting visits in the coming weeks and months, Denegal sat down for another RNG Q&A.

Interview

Jayden, we spoke towards the end of the 2019 season covering all aspects of your game then. Looking back, once your sophomore season ended, what were the strengths to your game as a developing quarterback?

“My strengths were delivering in the pocket, staying in the pocket and getting those throws downfield taking the hit.”

For the 2020 season, are you and the Sun Devils doing anything differently with the offense?

“This year we are going to throw a lot more. I will run a lot more too, that is a big difference.”

Since the season ended, what have you been working on to improve any of the technical aspects to your skills?

“This offseason I have been working on my delivery, getting the ball over the 6-5 defensive linemen, my pocket movement, throwing on the run and as a team being technical with routes; the exact yardage and where I think they will be.”

How have you pushed forward your knowledge and understanding of the game over the spring months?

“I have been watching my film, seeing what I did well and could do better. This offseason I have also been watching film on Drew Brees (Saints) and Aaron Rogers (Packers). I have learned more about our stick and drive concepts to understand the game more.”

Throughout the spring months, what has been your workout routine preparing for the upcoming schedule?

“My routine this spring with the virus has been getting up at 5:30 to take care of my animals, then I lift, do my two-mile run, come back home, and then throw with team around 10:00. We throw routes on air and do one-on-one drills. At 4:00, I am doing footwork drills, and I run a hill close to my house, do hill sprints, and then a two-mile cool down.”

Impressive and inspiring. That is a lot of work day in and day out.

“Thank you.”

Since we last spoke, your recruiting has taken off. How many offers have been extended to you?

“Nine.”

Which schools have offered most recently?

“Oregon State, Michigan State, Arkansas, and Utah.”

Denegal’s Offer Sheet: Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Colorado State, Georgia, Michigan State, Oregon State, and Utah

Which schools are showing interest?

“Michigan, Duke, Northwestern, FSU, Notre Dame, LSU, and Oregon.”

Be it this summer or fall, are there any programs you are planning on visiting?

“Definitely. I want to take some, but none are currently planned because of the virus. Some possible targets are Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, and LSU.”

Jayden, always great catching up with you. Wishing you continued success with your workouts this summer.

“Thank you.”
