As California high school football schedules go outside the Trinity League, Alemany High School has one of the toughest in the Golden State this fall. The Warriors open with national powerhouse St. John Bosco on the road and then face Oaks Christian and Mission Viejo all before getting into the heart of their Mission League schedule. The grueling 2021 lineup will be made a little bit easier with the addition of four-star safety/receiver Larry Turner to the roster. Turner (6-0, 186) has made the transfer to Alemany after playing his junior season with St. Bernard. The Warriors will get a focused two-way standout after Turner verbally committed to Arizona State on Feb. 26 over 33 other offers extended.

In a return to the RNG Lab, Turner updates us on his offseason workouts and upcoming unofficial visit to Tempe to help land other Class of 2022 talents.

Interview

Larry, how have the offseason workouts been going for you overall?

Pretty good. I am staying close to home working out by myself, perfecting my technique, and getting faster and stronger.

What have you been doing to increase your speed and agility this spring and summer?

Working out with my trainer, he’s having us running hills, pushing sleds, and work on the first 10 yards in the 40, stuff like that. And the speed treadmill.

You’re making that move from St. Bernard to Alemany for the 2021 season. Where all will you line up with Alemany this fall?

Pretty much everywhere. I will be at receiver and safety mostly, but I will also be returning kicks and punts.

Working on your cover skills, what are you focusing on there?

I am focused on moving my feet and pressing; my brother has been getting on me about that. I am always working on getting in and out of my breaks.

Over the weekend you played at the Pylon Tournament at Sofi Stadium, which team were you playing for?

Ground Zero.

How has the 7v7 season with Ground Zero gone?

Pretty good. We’ve won two or three tournaments. We’ve traveled to Florida, Texas, up to Fresno, and the last one was at Sofi.

Traveling the country playing against top teams and competition, what has that been like for you?

California is the top standard. We are used to that, but it is good to play top guys across the country.

Are there any camps on your schedule for this summer?

I am supposed to go to the Opening Finals.

Let’s close out talking about recruiting. Back on Feb. 26, you verbally committed to Arizona State; are you helping recruit other players to join you?

Most definitely.

When talking to other recruits, what’s your pitch to get them to commit to ASU?

To get a national championship, that is the end goal. You need top recruits to do that. I want to bring the best with me.

Have you visited ASU since the dead period lifted?

Not yet.

When will you get to visit ASU?

This weekend.

On an official?

No. An unofficial.

What all are you planning on doing during the visit?

Take tours. Other recruits will be there, I will meet with them.

Larry, good luck this weekend at ASU recruiting other top players.

Thank you.
