Not even a hamstring injury detours college programs, in both baseball and football, away from Jamie Felix. The two-sport standout is scholarship magnet with 30-plus offers received in football alone. At 5-10, 205, Felix is that power back with speed ripping apart Georgia defenses giving SEC, ACC, and collegiate teams across the country great reasons to make it to Camden County for a visit.

The impact skills on the gridiron are getting into tighter focus for the four-star recruit with a look to the next level. Camps, workouts, and visits have been taken this summer with a couple of visits already planned for the fall as Felix starts to narrow his recruiting process ahead of a planned dominating senior season.

Interview

Jamie, once the Wildcats had closed the book on the 2020 season, what did you start working on preparing for your senior season?

I started working on getting fully healthy; I was hurt during the season. At the start, I was going to different PTs (physical therapist) to get my legs right, then started working out and going to private camps.

What kind of injury did you have?

I tore my hamstring the spring my sophomore year, that lingered all the way into the season. I didn’t play until basically the last couple of games (in 2020). In my first game back, I rushed for 126 with one touchdown. That next week, I rushed for 136 with two touchdowns with a wrap on my hamstring.

Impressive. Are you 100 percent now?

Yes. I am ready to go.

What style of offense will you guys run this fall?

We will run a Wing T and a Spread.

That’ll be hard for defenses to prepare for in one week. What are some of the ways your offensive coordinator gets the ball into your hands?

We do a lot of counters, a lot of powers, and stuff like that. I will be the lead back this year.

You got some snaps on defense too. Where were you lining up on that side of the ball?

I was at outside linebacker. Now I am at strong safety.

At running back and strong safety, are you taking on any other positions during the 2021 season?

I am catching punts and returning kicks – I’m doing all of it.

For your role at running back, what have you been doing to fine-tune your skills?

After my injury, I had to get my feet back under me. I was working out privately with my pops. Then I started baseball; that helped me out a lot running the bases and tracking down balls in the outfield. That prepared me for spring ball. I had an awesome spring.

When you work on your speed and agility, what kind of training are you doing?

Running hills, going to the beach and doing sand workouts. I am mainly running hills and stadiums to get my legs and endurance back.

Have you gone to any college camps or participated in any college workouts?

I went to a Tennessee camp, and then to UCF for a visit, to Georgia Tech a few days after that, and then to UCF for a private workout.

How did the Tennessee camp go for you?

It went well. They just wanted to see if I am healthy. It was good. I already had that offer.

At the UCF workout, what kind of drills did the coaches put you through?

Agility drills. I ran a 4.1 in the pro agility, did some cone drills, and some route running drills. They wanted to see how I catch the ball; I can hang with the best of them catching the ball.

Let’s close out with a quick update on recruiting. How many offers do you have?

I have 22 offers. Oregon and Penn State offered me off my hurt film; they know what I can do. This season, I will rush for 250-plus yards in each of my first two games.

That will be exciting to see. With your offers, which programs were the last couple?

Texas Tech, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

Felix’s Offer Sheet: Arizona State, Auburn, Central Florida, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Virginia, and Wisconsin – also holding offers to play college baseball

Are there any schools you may visit later this summer or this fall?

In the fall, I will take an official to UCF and I will probably and go back to Florida. Those are the only ones I have right now.

Jamie, thank you for your time today. Keep up the grind this summer.

Yes, sir. Thank you.
