As they say, to beat the best you have to compete against the best and Tevin Carter is taking the notion to heart. The Class of 2022 Pure Youth quarterback has been waiting on the 2020 season to begin in the Memphis area, but that has not stopped him from competing or preparing for the future. Picking up playing in 7v7 tournaments, Carter has been slinging the ball around this offseason working on his game and will take those skills to upcoming camps with the Elite 11 and Under Armour ready to show why he is listed as a four-star talent. The developing skills for the 6-4, 215-pound, gunslinger is backed by 23 scholarship offers to date.

In an RNG catch-up interview, Carter talks about his workouts and potential recruiting visits in the coming months.

Interview

Tevin, I want to start off today the same as last time we spoke; what is the status on the 2020 high school football season in Memphis?

I plan on playing regardless, some teams are playing, but we are not.

With Pure Youth are you guys practicing as a team?

We are doing 7v7 right now.

How is 7v7 going?

We have a tournament next week.

With Pure Youth during the regular season, what is the offensive philosophy?

We run an NFL type offense. I say that because we met with an NFL guy and got a lot of the playbook off of him – pass protections and everything.

What have you been doing on the side to keep the competitive juices flowing waiting to put the pads on other than 7v7?

Throwing the ball around, getting some work in, and lifting weights.

One of the things you’ve been intent on improving upon was playing the game at a faster pace. How has that part of your game progressed over the winter months?

I am moving a lot faster. You can see it on my tape. I am making my progressions faster as I am trying to get ready for college.

What have you been working on with your fundamentals?

Keeping my chin down when I throw and staying on top of the ball.

Are there any upcoming camps you may attend?

I am going to the Elite 11 Regional in Nashville with the goal of trying to make it to the Elite 11 Finals. There is an Under Armour Camp coming up as well.

Let’s talk recruiting. Which schools are showing interest?

Oregon, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia.

Where is the offer total now?

I have 23 offers.

Which programs were the last couple to offer?

FAMU, Toledo, and Austin Peay.

Carter’s Offer Sheet: Arkansas, Auburn, Austin Peay, Baylor, Eastern Kentucky, Florida A&M, Florida State, Lane College, LSU, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee State, Texas A&M, Toledo, and Vanderbilt

Are there any programs you’d like to visit when that part of the recruiting process gets going again?

Yes, I’d like to visit Tennessee, Texas A&M, Florida, Memphis, and go back to Alabama. TCU too; they have been talking to me as well.

Tevin, it was great getting the quick update in with you today. Wishing you success at both of the upcoming camps.

Thank you, sir.
