The back alley offensive lineman no one wants to tangle with is Class of 2022 Bowie right tackle Devon Campbell. Campbell is that overpowering talent that plays through the whistle looking to plant a defender or two six-feet under with the snap of each play. With unmatched determination and strength beyond his grade classification, the Volunteers have ridden the play of the offensive line to a 6-1 record ready to take on Arlington (4-4) on Friday in the regular season finale. All eyes will be on the 6-4, 310-pound, four-star recruit as the talent on the gridiron escalates in the 6A playoffs.

With the intensity of the 2020 season building, and with 28 offers accepted, Campbell took a break for an RNG update interview.

Interview

DJ, the Volunteers are about to wrap up another successful regular season heading into the playoffs. Last year, how did the playoffs go for you going up against other top talent?

The playoffs last year went okay going against other competition; that was a new experience I definitely wanna experience that again. This year I hope to go farther than we did last year

If it was during the regular season or the playoffs, was there a challenge on the field that pushed you helping you become a better player this season?

My challenge for myself was to be better than I was last year, and I’ve been doing okay at that. I think I will achieve that goal.

Against who, how did it make you better?

Going against RJ Cooper from Martin (Arlington) helped me get better, because he’s great competition. Going against him allowed me to work on my technique while going against a highly ranked player. Me and him going against each other, it was a dog fight. Much respect to him

From the beginning of the season to the end, which areas of your game grew the most?

My pass protection has improved the most over the season.

In which game did you turn in your best personal performance?

This year I haven’t had my best performance. There is always room for improvement, so I never have my best performance.

Because of your style of play, I always want to know if you tracked pancakes and/or knockdowns?

No, sir. I do not track my pancakes and knockdowns

If you did not track them, best guess for the season or per game on average?

Maybe five per game on a bad day.

Going into offseason mode, what will you start working on with your skillset?

Going into the offseason I will work on getting faster and work on my body flexibility.

What’s the goal in the weight room you want to hit?

I want to be the strongest to my ability

Where is your offer total now?

I have 28 offers.

Last couple of schools to offer you?

Oregon State, Georgia, and Auburn have been the most recent.

Campbell’s Offer Sheet: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois State, Houston, Kansas, LSU, Miami, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Penn State, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Tulsa

Which schools are showing interest but have not offered?

Ohio State, Norte Dame, Cal, and West Virginia are showing interest but haven’t offered.

When visits get going again in 2021, are there any that you’d like to take?

I’d love to take visits anywhere possible.

Devon, thanks for your time today. Wishing you and your family a happy holiday.

Thank you, sir.
