The 2019 season was an impressive one for Hebron High School. The Hawks put together an 8-5 season with a three-game run into the 6A Texas playoffs before falling in a thrilling 41-30 game to Haltom. Along the way, a rising star emerged for the Hawks in Class of 2022 tailback Isaiah Broadway. Now all eyes are on Broadway to see what he can do as an experienced sophomore.

The 6-0, 190-pound, back showed flashes of being an unstoppable all-purpose back carrying the pigskin 84 times for 481 yards with five touchdowns and secured 13 passes for 125 yards with another trip into the end zone. The play on the field has earned Broadway four-star recruiting status and offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Illinois State, North Texas, and William and Mary. The offers extended by those believing in his talents have been rewarded early in 2019 with Broadway carrying the rock 26 times for 185 yards with two rushing scores in two games played.

In an RNG exclusive interview, I sat down with one of the Lone Star State’s top rising talents in the 2022 class covering his offseason workouts and the improvements in his game early in the 2022 season.

Interview

Isaiah, I can’t start the interview without first asking you about your speed. You have a lot of it and that shows on your reel. What is the best-timed run you’ve posted?

“My best time is a 4.5. This year, I hope to get a 4.4 at a camp.”

Last season, you were used in different ways like on outside zone plays and inside power runs off traps and counters. How are you receiving the ball within the Hawks offense this season?

“Coach Hill, our offensive coordinator, he’s taking my abilities into consideration. He plays chess against the other teams. He wants to put his best players in space and waits until the right time to run the right plays. This year, I will play more at receiver. I’m running the same run plays; traps, draws, counters, outside and inside zone.”

What kind of routes are you running as a receiver?

“Quick routes, like nows, and bubbles, flash, fades, and posts. He is letting us go.”

After torching 6A defenses as a freshman, what did you work on over the offseason so you could reach new heights this season?

“I worked on being more elusive and making people miss. I want to preserve my body. I am strong, but you have to take care of your body. I did a lot of route work, working on my catching – I have always been good at that, and worked on being a better all-purpose back.”

How is your game coming around?

“I am seeing a lot of improvement with my quickness. I am seeing improvements reading and setting up blocks, and my field vision has improved. I am making people miss – I am one cut and gone. I can pound the rock too.”

Going into recruiting. Which schools that you know of are showing interest but have not offered yet?

“I am receiving interest from Texas, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma.”

How many offers do you have?

“I have five offers.”

Are there any programs you may visit this fall?

“I might be going to the Oklahoma State verses Texas game on the 21st in Austin.”

Nice. What are some of the goals you want to accomplish this season on the field?

“I want to rush for over 1,000 yards and have 10-plus touchdowns. I want to take my team deep in the playoffs. We have a lot of seniors on the team, I want to help them. That is my goal this year and will be for the next three years.”

It seems that every 6A Texas high school football game is a big one. Which games left on the schedule are you and the Hawks looking forward to playing?

“Coppell and our next game against Fossil Ridge they beat us last year (37-17) in our non-district game but we beat them in the playoffs (17-7) in the first round. Lewisville is another big one on the schedule.”

Isaiah, it was great spending time with you learning more about your play on the field. Wishing you and the Hawks success until we speak next.

“Thank you.”
