It is one thing to be big, strong, or quick, and yet another to be skilled on the gridiron. If one has all those traits and has the self-motivation to be elite, you get a guy like Tre Emory. Emory has been perfectly impolite to opposing 5A Texas offenses this season accumulating an estimated stat line of 60-plus tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, and eight sacks. The 6-3.5, 290-pound, defensive lineman is on a superhuman strength path with a bench at 350 pounds, a clean at 295, and an eye-popping squat racked at 620 pounds.

College programs are seeing the three-star Mount Pleasant talent for what he is, a beast in the trenches with unlimited potential. Six programs have offered so far with outside interest gaining.

Ahead of the Tigers regular season wrap up against Jacksonville, Emory visited the RNG Lab mixing it up talking football and the top programs he’d like to visit in 2021.

Interview

Tre, you have been eating up 5A Texas offensive linemen hanging out in the opposition’s backfield like it was your living room. What has been working for you this season allowing you to be such a destructive force?

Yes, sir (laughs). I have worked hard, and my coaches have helped me with my game. We play against tough competition in the Houston and Dallas areas. The camps attended and the coaching I have received have made me a better student of the game. My goal every year is to get better.

You’ve been shedding blocks and driving your legs putting linemen on roller skates. During the season or back in the offseason, did you get to max out?

My bench is 350, my squat is 620, and my clean was 295.

Whoa. 620 on squat?

Yes, sir.

Wow. That is truly impressive and makes sense after watching your game film.

Thank you, sir.

Lining up in the Tigers’ four-man front, how have you seen your overall skills improve on defense during the 2020 schedule?

Our front is a base three-man with some four-man sets. Last year I was doubled a lot. But I worked on that, being doubled, and I am doing better against that this year. Our stunts put me in a one on one situation against offensive linemen. Going one on one, I will take advantage of that. My coaches put me in the best position as possible.

Is there a trait to your game that might get overlooked?

My hands. I am not allowing linemen to touch me from the jump.

Which game this season has been your best?

Man… I’d say the Nacogdoches or Greenville game… Nacogdoches.

What did you do well in that game to make it your best?

I had my first sack for a safety in that one; that puts it over Greenville even though I had a hell of game against them. I also had some chase down tackles, some tackles for a loss, and two sacks.

Are you getting any time in on offense this season?

Not really unless we go in the heavy formation. When we do that, I go in at tight end.

How is playing on offense helping you understand more about your primary position on defense?

It is helping seeing other defensive linemen, seeing their traits and their repetitive moves. When I am on defense, I know the offensive linemen will pick up on my moves if I keep doing the same thing over and over. From the experience, I am not repeating the same moves on defense.

The regular season finale is this Friday with a road game against Jacksonville. What kind of game are you preparing for with the Indians (1-8) offense?

They do a lot of power, Veer, a lot of pulling and down blocking. I’ll see a lot of double teams. I will line up and play. They will throw the ball a lot too. I have to get pressure on them.

Let’s cover ground on recruiting. Which schools are showing interest?

Houston, Duke, and Texas A&M.

How many offers do you have now?

Six.

Which programs were the last couple to offer you?

Baylor was my last. Baylor and TCU offered within 24 hours of each other and Oklahoma State was before that.

Emory’s Offer Sheet: Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU, Tennessee, and Texas-San Antonio

Nice. When the opportunity to take visits happens again, are there any you might go see?

I hope so. I definitely want to see TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas. That’s my top four I have to go to.

Tre, I really enjoyed breaking your game down today. Thanks for your time and good luck the rest of the way until we talk again.

Yes, sir. Thank you.
