At about 5:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday night, Arkansas Razorback fans got a scare when Class of 2017 linebacker/safety commit Derrick Munson put a cryptic message on Twitter. While Razorback fans were going through their own heartbreak with the thought of losing the first player committed to the class, the young man who posted the tweet was going through a little heartbreak of his own culminating in an embarrassing situation for all.

Munson is a hard hitting 6’0”, 195 pound, linebacker for Archbishop Rummel. He finished the 2015 season with a team-high 158 tackles with 21 tackles for a loss, six sacks, and two picks earning The New Orleans Advocate’s Defensive Player of the Year honors. Rummel went 11-2 with Munson’s help falling just shy of a second consecutive Louisiana state championship.

On Jan. 29, Munson committed to Arkansas becoming the foundation of the 2017 class for another 24 to join by next February.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I talked to Munson about the Twitter scare launching a fear decommitment scramble among Arkansas fans.

Interview

Derrick, let’s put the decommitment rumors to rest. What was the tweet that you put out there? What did it say?

“I posted something like “decommitted free agent.” I got that off a movie.”

What was the text in reference to?

“I made a tweet about my ex. About my relationship with her and people took it the wrong way.”

Shows how careful one has to be with social media. Was there any lessons learned from this dustup?

“I guess next time I’ll keep it to myself.”

Sorry to find out you are going through this and now the whole world has seemingly gotten into the middle of it. But at least now all the ladies now know you’re single.

Laughs

Are you still scheduled to go up to Arkansas this spring?

“Yes sir. I’m going to the spring game.”

Are you excited about the visit?

“Yes sir.”

Any new recruiting interest or new offers: No new offers and all the same schools are showing interest.”

How is school going for you?

“School is going well. I’m really focused on school right now and working hard on my chemistry.”

Derrick, good luck with your chemistry class and thanks for clarifying everything about the possible decommitment for the Arkansas fan base out there.

“Thank you.”
