It is hard to imagine Quincey McAdoo outperforming his sophomore season on the gridiron, but that is the plan. The Clarendon High School four-star prospect was a little bit of amazing during the 2019 season at all the skill positions pushing his name atop college football recruiting boards across the country.

McAdoo’s sophomore campaign would be a dream season for most, but for him it is just the beginning. Playing free safety for the Lions, the 6-3, 181-pound, defender ended 104 plays with five picks, one being a pick-six, and forced two fumbles. On offense he secured 19 passes for 345 yards with three scores and carried the rock 65 times for another 625 yards with eight more touchdowns posted on the scoreboard. Returning 10 kicks and six punts, McAdoo added 255 more all-purpose yards to the stat sheet.

The overall athletic abilities and elite speed, clocked at a 4.46, has drawn college football programs to Arkansas in hopes of getting his signature on National Signing Day. The Class of 2022 recruit has 15 offers on the table with more to come as interest continues to build.

In an RNG catch-up interview, McAdoo covers ground on his offseason workouts and the Lions’ preseason practices with a look at his recruiting process.

Interview

Quincy, when we spoke towards the beginning of the summer you broke down how you were adding more speed and power to your skillset. Let’s go back over all of it starting with your strength. What workouts have you been doing over the summer months to prepare for the season?

Last year I was scrawny, I did not like it. This year I have worked to get my arms more toned, not to just get buff. I did a lot of benching, DB rows, military press, and closed hand press to work on my upper body. With my legs, I do calf raises every night and we squat every day. We are hitting the weights hard. Last year we did not have team leaders, the juniors have stepped up and are leading the team this year.

What drills and exercises have you been doing to boost all that speed?

Our coaches have the skill guys doing sprint bursts, and has us doing that when we are tired. We do 20-10s and 10-20s at full speed. At home, my brother and I do ladder drills. We have a trainer/coach from Memphis who sends us workouts to do. We also run with the parachute.

Did you get a 40 time down this summer?

No, not this summer. I ran a 4.46 on my last run.

You play so many different positions, let’s begin with offense. As a running back and receiver, what have you been fine-tuning over the last couple of months?

Just like last year, my coaches putting me everywhere this season. I will be at Z, L, inside, and some at running back.

What about with your skills as a free safety and outside linebacker?

I will be at free safety and rolling down sometimes at outside linebacker to contain with my speed. This offseason I have been watching a lot of film on the teams we have coming up. I try to learn how they run their routes. I get with my teammates after our coach gives us an option, we choose before we game plan and then we work on that plan until Friday.

How has fall camp with the Lions gone so far?

We just had a scrimmage against Earle, we beat them 6-0. The starters did not play that much, our coach wanted everyone to play. We looked good. We have improved so much from last season.

What are the biggest areas of personal improvements you’ve seen so far?

I feel like I am way faster from last season, I can feel it when I run. It is harder to tackle me now with my strength. The work I put in, it is showing already. I am more toned than last year and it is harder to bring me down. On defense, I am filling downhill more instead of waiting. I am filling and meeting the running back instead of waiting. With my hands, not trying to sound cocky, but my hands have always been like this.

I believe the Arkansas high school football season has been pushed to start on Sept. 4. That would have you guys playing Barton. What kind of game will the Bears bring to that home game for Clarendon?

It will be a big game for us. They are good, and we have a lot on us this year. We are expected to go No. 1 in our conference. It will not be an easy game, and it is senior night. They are a muscle team.

Let’s get into recruiting. Which schools are showing interest as the season is about to begin?

My coaches know, but they won’t tell me. I have some follows from schools on Twitter, but I am not sure if that is interest or not.

How many programs have offered so far?

I have 15 offers.

Nice. Which program was the last to offer?

Kansas.

McAdoo’s Offer Sheet: Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Florida International, Florida State, Houston, Kansas, Memphis, Miami, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas A&M

Have you taken any virtual visits this summer?

I was supposed to do one with Florida State this weekend. They are sending the link to my coach, and then I watch it.

Once the campuses open back up, are there any visits you’d like to take?

As of right now, my coach out of Memphis, he schedules the visits. He is talking to coaches for me. As soon as the campuses open up, I would like to visit as many schools as possible. I don’t know any specifics on which schools I might visit. I know my teammates have some of the same offers. Guessing that my coach will take us all at the same time so we can go together.

Last question for you. What goals have you set for the 2020 season?

My team has not won a playoff game in a long time, that is the goal. The goal is to win a playoff game. I want to beat my stats from last year, but I want to do it with my team.

Quincey, always great getting time with you. Wishing you and the Lions success this season.

Thank you.
