Kentwood High School, located 88 miles north of New Orleans, had an amazing season in 2017 as the Kangaroos made it all the way to 1A state championship game. Unfortunately, they suffered a heartbreaking 24-10 defeat to West St. John. During the regular season, the only other loss came in Week 1 of the season at Loranger (21-14).

The key to the Kangaroos success last season was the play of their lockdown defensive unit, a unit that only gave up 12.6 points a game. Only four opponents were able to score 20 or more points against Kentwood in 2017. One of the star playmakers on the defense was sophomore linebacker Bry’ce Cooper. Cooper was a ballhawk racking up over 100 tackles with five tackles for a loss. The 5’11”, 220-pound, monster in the middle uses his ability to read plays before the snap in order to make plays all over the field.

The Class of 2020 recruit currently holds seven college offers but is also drawing interest from several SEC schools including LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. Cooper is also a standout in the classroom, he currently holds 3.7 GPA and has plans on studying business management in college to prove that he is not only a leader on the football field but also in the classroom.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Bry’ce to discuss his career at Kentwood and his recruiting process.
