When Miles Davis gets the pigskin in his hands, for football fans, it is a thing of beauty. Davis has elite speed, great field vision and hands, and fights hard for extra yards making each play filled with excitement. The 6-1, 185-pound, Las Vegas High School standout ended his junior campaign with 38 receptions for 437 yards hitting the end zone seven times and proved to be just as dangerous taking the ball on jet sweeps and on special teams as a kick returner. The Junior Olympic qualifier in the 200 and 400 is back on the field in 2019 doing his thing with seven touchdowns scored in the Wildcats 3-0 start to the 2019 schedule.

After a summer filled with camps and workouts, Davis has pushed his game to new heights with college coaches responding in kind seeing six offers extended. In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with one of the West’s top under the radar talents who is ready to make one college football squad a lucky one next season.

Interview

Miles, I saw you last at a UCLA camp over the summer. After that camp, what did you work on with your skillset?

“I worked on my catching and my hands, getting better separation both off the line and out of my breaks, and my explosiveness.”

Did you compete at any other camps other than the UCLA camp this summer?

“Yes, sir. I competed at the NAU (Northern Arizona) camp. I missed a lot of camps because of track and the Junior Olympics.”

Remind me, which events do you run in track?

“The 200 and 400. I will run the 100 this year.”

What are your top times in the 200 and 400?

“My best time in the 200 is 22.12 and in the 400 47-flat.”

Are you ranked nationally in the Junior Olympics?

“Yes, sir. I am ranked fifth in the 400 in the nation.”

Nice. After all your hard work over the offseason, three games into the season, which areas of your skillset have you been able to showcase?

“I am showing off my speed, my jukes – being elusive, and my hands.”

What do you feel you are doing better this season over your junior year?

“This year I am breaking more tackles. My hands got a lot better – a lot better. I have not dropped a ball this season. My speed has improved; we do a lot of speed work and drills as a team.”

What style of offense are the Wildcats running?

“We run a Spread. We like to go to the air with the ball.”

How are the coaches utilizing your skills within the offense?

“We do a lot of jet sweeps and deep passes. We do not face a lot of fast corners, so we go deep a lot. I feel we have one of the fastest teams in Nevada if not the fastest.”

Of the route tree, what are some of your favorite routes to run?

“We run a lot of go routes, comebacks, hitches, and screens.”

Which game has been your best thus far and why do you consider that to be your best?

“My first game of the season was my best. I scored four touchdowns against Adelanto, a team from California (won 42-28).”

Going into recruiting. Last time we talked you had four offers. Where is your offer sheet now?

“I have six offers from BYU, Idaho, Montana State, Southern Utah, Ottawa in Arizona, and UNLV.”

Which schools are showing interest but have not offered yet?

“Weber State, NAU, and Washington State.”

Do you have any planned visits ahead?

“Yes, sir. I am going on an official to Montana State, BYU, and UNLV.”

Since I saw you over the summer, have you visited any programs?

“Yes, sir. I visited UNLV – that went well. I did a photo shoot; that was awesome.”

Anything you want to share before we end the interview?

“Yes. My team, we are doing pretty good. We are 3-0. I want to give a huge shout out to my team.”

Miles, it was great catching up with you today. I appreciate your time and wish you and the team success this season.

“Thank you.”
