Prolific may be an understatement when discussing the play of Andrew Body. The Miller High School standout ripped up 5A Texas defenses as a sophomore throwing for 3,455 yards with 34 touchdowns while rushing for 200 more with five trips into the end zone. During his junior campaign, the 6-1, 185-pound, gun slinger was on target hitting 248 of 380 pass attempts for 4,176 yards with 47 scores against just two interceptions. His dual-threat talents took a big step forward as well covering 383 yards 12 times crossing the goal line. For his efforts, Body has earned an offer from Texas Southern with other programs in the area watching intently.

In an RNG first-look, Body sat down for a Q&A detailing his play on the field in the Buccaneers’ Spread offense during their 12-1 season in 2019 while giving a quick recruiting update.

Interview

Andrew, during the 2019 season you were airing it out against Texas 5A defenses. The connection you had with your receivers shows on film. How did you develop that bond leading to the big season?

“From the end of the 2018 season, we would throw in the summer getting our connection right working four times a week doing drills to have that chemistry.”

What offensive set were you executing?

“We ran a Spread.”

There were a lot of vertical routes the receivers were running, which routes on the tree were you connecting on last season?

“Everything to be honest – slants, post, goes, corners, comebacks, stops, outs – everything you can think of. We did it all.”

You showcased your ability to escape the pocket and make plays with your legs when needed in 2019. What were some of the other areas of your game that really took a big step forward?

“I felt like when no receivers were open, it came down to me making a play with the best of my abilities. My main concern was increasing my completion percentage. Other areas of my game that improved were anticipating the throw, reading defenses, and reading ends on RPOs.”

Throughout the offseason what have you been working on with the mechanical part of your game?

“This offseason I have been working on fine-tuning my throwing and tightening the way I throw. After talking to college coaches, they say I short arm it with my delivery; I am working to fix that. And I am working on my footwork.”

How have you expanded your knowledge of the game this spring?

“We have Zoom meetings with our coaches, we chop it up. I have been studying film going over defenses. We are in 4A this year; we will be facing new teams and different defenses.”

Are the Bucs doing anything differently within the offense this fall?

“Not saying we are doing anything different, but we will make adjustments based on the defense we play.”

If the college camp circuit happens, are there any you may go compete at this summer?

“I might go to a few, but I am not sure which ones right now. If The Opening and Under Armour happen, I will be there. Before everything shut down, I went to a Rivals camp. Some of the college camps I am looking at are UIW, Texas Southern, some local ones, and maybe some outside the state.”

Texas Southern has offered, which programs are showing interest?

“I have been talking to UIW some, Tyler, Southern Nazarene, some Ivy Leagues, and Lamar.”

Before everything shutdown, did you get a chance to take any visits?

“No. I was invited on three visits, I was planning on going to UTPB, UIW, and Southern Nazarene.”

Once the dead period is over, are there any planned trips you may take?

“Yes. I will go to Texas Southern for sure, UIW, and the other schools that I have been in contact with then.”

When the 2020 season kicks off, what do you want to showcase for college coaches that they may be missing with all that you can do on the field?

“No matter what happens that I am a competitor, I hate losing; I will get the job done.”

Andrew, thanks for your time today and good luck with the rest of your workouts this summer.

“Thank you.”
