For the average football fan, if you ever want to know how good a defensive back is just look at his stats. If he is at the bottom of the list with just about nothing to show for all the hard work put in on and off the field except for some tackles you know that secondary player is dangerous. Three games into the 2017 season, junior Santa Fe High School free safety Kamron Love is getting a lot of love from opposing quarterbacks seeing the ball go the other way leaving a ghost town on his side of the field and on the stat sheet.

Love broke onto the varsity level for the Wolves during his sophomore year laying the ground work for a side of the field where pigskins do not fly. Santa Fe is 2-1 on the year with their 6-0, 155 pound, rising talent coming up with 13 tackles and two pass breakups. The Wolves stumbled 35-21 to Booker T. Washington (Tulsa) in the season opener but have righted the ship getting a 43-7 win over Edmond North and a 38-21 victory against Deer Creek last week. Another big challenge is coming up Friday night with a trip to Norman North (1-1). The Timberwolves have an exciting aerial assault attack led by senior quarterback Ryan Peoples with top targets in senior receivers Drake and Isaac Stoops. The game proves to be a big matchup in the Oklahoma high school football ranks and for the Wolves secondary.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Love ahead of the big Norman North game covering his season to date with an update on his growing recruiting interest.

Interview

Kamron, over the offseason, what all did you work on to prepare for the 2017 schedule?

“I worked on getting stronger and faster. As a team, we worked on team bonding stuff over the summer with our workouts. We are becoming more of a family every time we go out on the field. We work hard to finish out and play games like we should.”

How are you seeing the payoff for all your hard work over the spring and summer?

“The work put in is paying off big time. Everything is falling into place. The game is slower for me this year. I am able to perform at my best.”

Where are you lining up on the field this season?

“I’m starting at safety and playing some corner. On offense, if they need me I’m playing some receiver and I’m on special teams as a returner.”

Have you had any tough match-ups against good receivers yet this season?

“Yes. Against Booker T., Daxton Hill and DeWayne Cooks were pretty good. This Friday we play against Drake and Isaac Stoops, Bob Stoops’ sons. That will be a real good challenge for us. We should lock it down.”

How did the match-up against Booker T’s receivers help make you a better player?

“They are faster than most receivers. Playing against them, I had to speed up my thought process and get to my spots quicker.”

Did you attend any college camps this summer to help learn more about technique and coverages?

“Yes, I attended Oklahoma State’s “The Showcase” camp, the “Tulsa Elite” camp, an OBU (Oklahoma Baptist), Southern Illinois, and a Central Oklahoma camp.”

Which schools are showing early interest in you?

“UCO (Central Oklahoma), Oklahoma State has me on their radar, and Delta State.”

Have you taken any unofficial visits yet?

“Yes. I went to Oklahoma State for their spring game in April, and I am going to UCO on Saturday for a game.”

Fantastic. What has you excited about the UCO visit?

“The UCO visit will be my first visit to a school that is showing a lot of interest in me. I like the coaches up there. I am ready to see what it is like.”

In the classroom, what is your cumulative GPA you are taking into your junior year?

“3.15.”

Nice. It is early, but have you taken the ACT or SAT yet?

“Yes, sir. I took the ACT scoring a 21. I am scheduled to take it again in October.”

Nice. You talked a little bit about this a couple of minutes ago, the Wolves get Norman North on Friday, what kind of challenge does the Timberwolves offense bring to the game for you guys?

“Last year they put up some points on us. This year we are coming out hitting. We will be ready. They are a spread team so we have to bring our best to this game.”

Are there any other games on the schedule you are excited to play after the Norman North showdown?

“I’m ready to play Edmond Memorial, our crosstown rivals. I am excited to play every game, and I can’t wait for the playoffs. I am ready for it. I’m excited to play every game.”

What goals have you set for your junior season?

“Be the best that I can be out on the field. My goal is to play for the team. My mindset is more about playing together as a team and get closer as a family.”

Kamron, thanks for your time today and good luck against Norman North.

“Thank you.”
