During the 2017 season, Elisha Lloyd was an unstoppable force playing among his peer group. The 5-10, 175-pound, athlete/cornerback/running back motored past the competition for over 1,000 yards with 26 rushing scores going up on the board. Now, Lloyd is getting his first big taste of California varsity football suiting up with San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic. The season is young, put the talent who posted a 4.37 40-yard dash at a Premium combine (video proof is out there!) rushed for 53 yards off three totes, had a 28-yard kick return, and came up with three tackles in his first game of the 2018 schedule.

In a Recruiting News Guru catch-up interview, I sat down with Lloyd covering his summer workouts and early season experience with the Dons.

Interview

Elisha, how did your offseason workouts go?

“They went great. We went every day at 6:00 a.m. doing upper and lower body workouts. I have been getting faster and stronger. I have put a lot of work in this, gained weight, trying to get better every day.

What were some of the areas of your game you focused on the most?

“I focused more on getting out of my breaks faster, recognizing plays as a defender, and I watched and evaluated a lot of film. I worked hard on being a better overall athlete.”

The Dons (1-1) are two games into the 2018 season, based off your play early in the season, where are you seeing the biggest improvements in your game?

“For me, I have been patient waiting for plays to develop. I am better at being in the zone, better coming out of my breaks, and better with my man coverage. I am covering guys a lot better this year.”

Where all are you lining up on the field this year?

“Cornerback, receiver, running back, and kick returner.”

How are you being utilized within the offense?

“DJ Justice and I on the outside a lot. In some packages I am in the slot. They have a lot of jet sweeps, tosses, and screens set up for me. They are using me a lot within the offense this year.”

The Dons are coming off a really big win over El Camino (56-7), what was clicking for your guys in Week 2?

“Our focus was a there. We put in the work before playing El Camino. We practiced hard, watched a lot of film, and we came out ready to play.”

You get No. 12 Serra (1-0) on Saturday in the Honor Bowl, what kind of game are you anticipating from the Cavaliers?

“We changed our defense up to matchup with them. I am confident in every aspect of the game going against Serra. We will give them our best game. It will be a challenge guarding their receivers, they have some of the best in the nation. I am ready to prove to the nation what I have been working on this offseason.”

Before the season started, did you get a chance to go to any college camps?

“Yes. I went to a USC camp and a Charleston State (D-II) camp with a bunch of schools there.”

It is early in your recruiting process, but do you have any early interest building up?

“Yes. After the USC camp, Oregon State, Nebraska, Nevada, and Indiana have all shown interest.”

This summer did you get to take any unofficial visits?

“Yes. I went to USC.”

What are your goals for the 2018 season?

“I want to dominate. I want to prove to the nation my skills. I want to show the world what I can do on the field. I feel like I am underrated, and I know I have a lot of potential to get even better. I want to be a leader on the field and help my team win.”

Elisha, thanks for your time today and good luck on Saturday against Serra.

“Thank you.”
