When Servite High School takes the field against other top California squads during the 2020 season, there will be a lot of interest focused on rising 2024 athlete Emmett Mosley. Mosley has transferred from the Chicago area to Orange County ready to apply his skills as a jack-of-all-trades skill player in the secondary, as a receiver and running back, and return specialist. In fact, the buzz is such that Mosley has already landed two Power 5 offers from Arizona State and LSU.

In an RNG first-look, Mosley catches us up on his offseason workouts preparing for a grinding season against one of the nation’s toughest high school football conferences, the Trinity League.

Interview

Emmett, catch all of us up on what you’ve been doing over the last year. Let’s start with the 2019 season; which team and at what level were you playing?

Last year I reclassed, I played for the Redhawks in 2018. Because I reclassed, I practiced with them last year but did not play games, but I was training every day.

Which positions were you training and/or practicing at last season?

At receiver, slot, and some at running back getting tosses and sweeps. On defense, I was at strong and free safety, corner, and kick and punt returner.

As a defensive back, which position do you like playing more, free or strong safety?

I like playing both, I like strong coming downhill.

When the 2020 season gets going, you will be suiting up for Servite. Where all might we see you on the field with the Friars?

I am guessing on defense that I will play safety maybe some corner and/or nickel. On offense, I will be at receiver but I am not sure if at slot or on the outside. We’ve not had any practices yet because of virus, so I am not sure. I’m hoping kick and punt return too.

Which areas of your game have you been working on this offseason to prepare for the upcoming schedule?

Mainly my catching, footwork, and creativity on my routes. I have worked a lot on my cuts, getting in and out of breaks faster and on defense my hip turns, getting in and out of breaks, and studying a lot of film on guys I look up to.

The Trinity League at all of its levels are challenging. How have you prepared your body for the upcoming grind?

With my lifts I have focused on explosive lifts like snatches and cleans. I like doing those for my lower body and I do squats and lunges. All of that helps with speed and explosion. I am working on putting more weight on my body and working on developing my upper body.

With your technical work and your strength and conditioning workouts, putting it all together, where are you seeing improvements in your game this offseason?

My conditioning, a lot of that is coming with the lifting and the work I do on the field. I work on the field and then I go lift or I lift and then go do conditioning. All the work keeps my legs strong to play at high level for entire game and helps me get in and out of my breaks and improves my cuts.

With the season being pushed until January, what is the Friars practice schedule going forward?

We’ve been lifting over Zoom. Our coach will tell us what to do with reps and sets; we’ve been doing that since June. We were cleared a couple of days ago to start practicing again, that will be fun.

College programs are already onto you. Which schools have offered so far?

Arizona State and LSU.

That’s awesome. What was it like for you receiving those big-time offers?

It was really exciting. I felt super blessed. All the hard work I have been doing behind the light is coming to light. The offers give me more motivation that I can do this, and I got this.

As an underclassman you may not fully know the answer to this, so let’s limit this to Twitter. Which schools are showing forms of interest in you in follows on Twitter?

On Twitter, I have some position coaches, defensive and offensive coordinators from schools like Hawaii and Oregon State.

Nice. Once visits are allowed again, are there any visits you’d like to take or have planned?

Yes. I plan on going to Arizona State soon, that is all that is planned for now. Hopefully I can take some to schools like USC, UCLA, and colleges in California I can drive to.

Emmett, I appreciate your time today. Wishing you great success this fall preparing for the upcoming season with Servite.

Thank you.
