The Crowley Eagles of Crowley, Texas located just south of Fort Worth had a down season in 2015 suffering through a 3-7 season failing to reach the playoffs. In 2015, the Eagles scored 25 points a game while giving up 32 points on average. This summer both the offense and defense are working hard to prepare themselves for the upcoming season as they look to improve from last year.

A bright spot for the defense is that the Eagles return nine starters from last year’s squad all with another year of experience under their belt. One of the returning leaders of defense is senior cornerback Andre Mulinax. The 5’10”, 180 pound, senior had a great junior season where he racked up 35 total tackles, six tackles for a loss, and two interceptions. After the season, Mulinax was named first team All-District and was named on the All-Academic team.

Not only is Mulinax a leader on the field but he is also a leader in the classroom as he has a 3.6 GPA and has plans to study kinesiology in college. The senior cornerback currently has an offer from Army and is also receiving interest from several other schools including Navy.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Andre to talk about his junior season, his preparation over the summer, and his upcoming senior season.

Interview

Andre, what are your thoughts on the 2015 season?

“The 2015 season was disappointing to the team. We went 3-7 and those three wins came in district play. We lacked senior leadership which is one of the most important team qualities.”

What are your thoughts on your individual performance in your junior season?

“On a scale of 1-10, I would give myself a 7.5. I had a good season but it could’ve been better. My stats were limited due to lack of looks to my side of the field.”

What are your stats from last season?

“Thirty-five total tackles, six tackles for a loss, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, two pass break-ups, one fumble recovery.”

Did you receive any individual honors?

“I earned first team All-District and Crowley High School All-Academic team.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“My strengths on the football include play recognition from film study, knowing what routes to expect from receiver alignment, coming downhill to tackle, I can play man and zone very well and I manage the secondary in coverage calls.”

What camps have you attended?

“UMHB Mega Camp and Northwestern State.”

What camps are you planning to attend?

“Stephen F. Austin, SMU, UTSA (Texas-San Antonio), Abilene Christian, and then Texas State.”

What schools are showing interest in you?

“Northwestern State, Abilene Christian, Navy, North Texas and Houston Baptist.”

Did you currently have any offers?

“I received an Army offer in the spring.

How are you preparing for the 2016 season?

“I am preparing for the 2016 season by doing strength and conditioning in the mornings Monday-Thursday and field trainings on the weekends. I also stress the importance of the summer workout regimen to my teammates so they know to work as hard as they can to be great.”

How does Crowley look going into next season?

“Crowley’s defense is strong and well experienced. We have nine returning starters on defense. Our offense is somewhat inexperienced at the receiver position. Our quarterback returns for his junior season. Overall we look decent right now but if we work hard enough this summer I believe we can have real potential to run the table in our district.”

Have you set any team or personal goals for your senior season?

“Our team goals is to start off by winning our non-district game to go 3-0. Then we need to win at least four games in district play to advance to qualify for playoffs. We want to win the district title and go into the playoffs with momentum and confidence to advance throughout the playoffs. My personal goals include having at least 50 tackles, at least 10 deflections, six or more interceptions, at least three interceptions returned for a touchdown, 10 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.”

What is your current GPA?

“3.6.”

What do you want to study in college?

“Kinesiology.”

Thank you for your time.

“Thank you sir.”
