Iowa’s 2017 recruiting class is going in the wrong direction of late first losing running back Eno Benjamin on Oct. 23 and then cornerback Chevin Calloway on Monday.

Calloway, a four-star recruit from Bishop Dune High School, committed to the Hawkeyes on July 11. The commitment had remained firm even through various offers and an Oct. 1 official visit to Nebraska. Speculation has Calloway potentially making a new announcement this weekend with an official visit schedule to Arkansas for the LSU game. Adding to the speculation, Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema gave Calloway a public 18th Happy Birthday acknowledgment on Twitter on Wednesday.

College coaches love the athleticism and play making abilities Calloway brings to the field. During his junior season he posted 50 tackles with three interceptions playing his way into a Top 15 player at his position. Stats posted through nine games has Calloway with 47 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, a sack, 10 passes defended, and one interception this season.

Calloway has been one of the more highly recruited players in the nation with over 30 scholarship offers. The Under Armour All-American Game invitee has next level options with Alabama, Texas, Arizona State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, UCLA, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, TCU, and Auburn among others.

The Hawkeyes 2017 recruiting class is now ranked No. 34 in the nation, No. 9 in the Big Ten, by 247Sports. Rivals has dropped Iowa to No. 40 in the country with one four-star recruit, defensive end A.J. Epenesa. Benjamin is also a four-star recruit rushing for over 2,600 yards with 41 touchdowns during his junior season.
