Tai Newhouse is one of the rising stars among the high school football ranks in the whole state of Kansas. The 6’3”, 295-pound, beast racked up 46.5 total tackles including 7.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks during his sophomore campaign while helping the Firebirds of Lawrence Free State reach the second round of the state playoffs finishing with an 8-2 record overall.

The Class of 2022 prospect doesn’t have any college offers yet, but is already drawing interest from in-state schools including Kansas State and looks to make an even bigger name for himself as he attends numerous college camps this summer.

With this young play-maker making huge plays in the trenches for this Firebird’s defense for the next two seasons, the future is bright for not only Lawrence Free State but also Tai Newhouse.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Tai to discuss his sophomore season and his recruiting process.

Interview

Tai, what are your thoughts on your sophomore season?

“I think I had a pretty solid year. Obviously, there is some room for improvement but it definitely wasn’t the year I was expecting, especially since this was my first year at my position. I played the best at the beginning and at the end of the season. There were some games in the middle that were tough but I feel like I fixed my mistakes throughout the season.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“I think my awareness and toughness are my strengths. I’m able to keep going even when we’re down in a game and hold my teammates accountable.”

What was your most memorable moment?

“My first game when the atmosphere was amazing. Breaking through that sign with thousands of people cheering was incredible.”

Are there any colleges showing you interest?

“I don’t have any offers yet but Kansas State is showing me interest.”

Have you attended any college camps?

“Not yet, but I’ll be attending camps all summer.”

What do you like most about playing your position?

“I love the physicality of being a nose guard. Every play is a battle to dominate the line of scrimmage.”

Is there a current football player that you try to model your game after?

“Damien Harrison and Ndamukang Suh.”

What is your GPA?

“3.4.”

What is your favorite subject in school?

“History, because I like to learn about our past and how we became who we are today.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career and why?

“My dad, because he always pushes me to work hard and always try my best.”

What do you like most about playing at Lawrence Free State?

“The fans and the students. They’re a little rowdy sometimes but they’re always engaged and always supportive whether we win or lose.”

Thank you for your time.

“Thank you, sir.”
