Mill Valley 38, St. Thomas Aquinas 20
In a battle of 5A powerhouses, the Jaguars went on the road and beat last year’s state runner-up.  Mill Valley’s defense forced three turnovers but the story of the game was the great play of their offense.

Senior quarterback Logan Koch led the Jaguars offensive attack as he threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns and added 97 yards on the ground. One of his weapons is senior Christian Jegen who caught nine balls for 151 yards and a touchdown.

The Saints offense was led by running back Jacob Leikam who had 118 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Next week: St. Thomas Aquinas hosts Blue Valley North while Mill Valley hosts Blue Valley Northwest.

Bishop Miege 57, Blue Valley Northwest 14
The Stags opened their title defense season with a blowout over the Huskies. Bishop Miege’s offense was led by senior running back Dawson Downing who had five touchdowns and over 200 yards rushing.  Quarterback Carter Putz added three passing touchdowns.

An exciting play for Blue Valley Northwest was in the third quarter when Daeron Robinson returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

Next week: Bishop Miege travels to Gardner-Edgerton while Blue Valley Northwest travels to Mill Valley.

Shawnee Mission North 22, Shawnee Mission South 8
The Indians junior quarterback Will Schneider was the MVP in his team’s season opener. The southpaw leader had over 200 yards of total offense and had two touchdowns, one on the ground and one in the air to receiver Tyler Burnett. Sophomore running back Reese Sila had 131 yards and scored the first touchdown for Shawnee Mission North.

The Indians defense also showed shined as they recovered two onside kicks and forced three fumbles. Shawnee Mission South’s Cam Union broke through the Indians lock down defense as he ran in for his team’s lone touchdown late in the game.

Next week: Shawnee Mission North travels to Shawnee Mission Northwest while Shawnee Mission South hosts Shawnee Mission East.
