Bishop Miege had an amazing season in 2015 as the Stags went 12-1 and won their second straight Kansas 4A state championship.

One of the keys to the Stags success was their astounding offense which scored a whopping 57 points a game! The offense had many great stars including senior running back Dawson Downing and junior wide receiver Jafar Armstrong. However one of the unsung heroes and leader of the offensive line was junior center Colin Grunhard.

The 6’1”, 270 pound, center has gained plenty of experience as he has started since his freshman year and will once again be the anchor of the Stags offensive line in 2016. After a great 2015 season, Grunhard won several individual honors including first team All-State.

The Class of 2017 recruit has already received interest from several schools including Kansas and Kansas State and has already received his first college offer from Northwest Missouri State.

Not only has Grunhard had a great career at Bishop Miege on the field but also works hard in the classroom where he has a 3.76 GPA and has plans to study either business or engineering in college.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Colin to talk about his career at Bishop Miege and his recruiting process.

Interview
What are your thoughts on the 2015 season?

“It was a good season. We were able to repeat. Our offense was very versatile as we could run or pass the ball.”

What are your thoughts on your individual performance?

“I think I had a really good season and had a much better season then my sophomore year. I have good balance and athleticism.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“My athleticism and just knowing what’s going on. I understand the defense and communication as a center.”

Did you receive any individual honors?

“Yes, I was first team All-State, first team All-Conference, first team All-League, and Kansas City metro first team offensive line.”

What was your most memorable moment of your junior season?

“The state championship game because the field was frozen over with ice. We went out, dominated and won by like 50 so it was just a great game.”

Are you receiving any interest from any schools?

“Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Wyoming, Harvard, and Northwest Missouri State.”

Do you have any offers?

“Yes, just Northwest Missouri State.”

Have you gone on any visits?

“Not yet but I’m going to the Missouri Junior Day in a couple weeks.”

Will you attend any camps this summer?

“I believe I will. I got invited to the Nike Opening Regional camp in Chicago and I believe I’ll go to some others to showcase.”

What do you like most about playing football?

“Just the life lessons I learn and playing with my friends and brothers.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

“My dad, Tim Grunhard, who is also my coach. He helps me out in every situation. He did it for 11 years in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs so he knows what he is talking about. He helps me with everything.”

How does Bishop Miege look going into next season?

“We look pretty good. We lost some starters. We’ll have some younger guys come in and step up but we should be alright.”

Do you have any team or personal goals going into your senior season?

“We would like to get our third championship in a row and I would like to receive more offers and get better as a player and a person.”

Does going for a third straight state title add any extra pressure on you?

“A little bit but we’ve done it two years in a row. We work hard in the summer and throughout the season so we should be alright.”

What is your current GPA?

“3.76.”

Have you thought about what you want to study in college?

“Business or engineering.”

Thank you for your time and good luck in your senior season.
