Bishop Miege had a great season in 2015 as they finished 12-1 and won their seconds straight Kansas 4A state title. The Stags won their first two games of the year then suffered their only loss to Blue Valley, 42-35, before reeling off 10 straight victories.

The key to their successful season was their outstanding offense that scored an incredible 57 points a game. One of the leaders of this great offensive unit was junior wide receiver Jafar Armstrong.

Armstrong caught 65 passes for 1,262 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. The 6’0”, 200 pound, receiver earned several individual honors for his great effort in 2015 including being named first team All-State and first team All-Conference.

The Class of 2017 recruit has already received interest from several schools including Kansas, Kansas State, and Missouri and has already made several unofficial visits including one to Oklahoma State.

Armstrong has great speed posting a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash and models his game after NFL all-time great wide receiver Randy Moss.

In an exclusive Recruiting News interview, I sat down with Jafar to talk about his break out junior year, his recruiting process, and his upcoming senior season.

Interview
Congratulations on winning a second straight state title. What are your thoughts on the 2015 season?

“It was a pretty good season. We were 12-1 with a sophomore quarterback. Besides that one hiccup it was almost a flawless year.”

What are your thoughts on your individual performance?

“I was proud of it. I worked hard last off season with my routes. I worked hard to make sure my game was exactly what the coaches wanted to see. I want to give some credit to our sophomore quarterback Carter Putz. He put some balls places where most sophomores can’t.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“I’m stronger than most receivers. I’m also a great deep threat and I like to take the top off of the defense.”

Did you receive any individual honors?

“First team All-State and first team All-Conference.”

What schools are you receiving interest from?

“Oklahoma State, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Missouri, and Northwestern.”

Do you have any offers?

“No sir.”

Have you gone on any visits?

“Oklahoma State and Illinois.”

Will you attend any camps this upcoming summer?

“A Rivals camp, The Opening camp, and I haven’t decided which school camps I will attend yet.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

“Definitely my father, Jemal Armstrong, I’m blessed to have him in my life. He takes me where I need to go. Whatever I need my dad gets me. I also have really experienced coaches. Head Coach Holmes, Coach Grunhard and Coach Hoover, they all have had a great impact on my high school career.”

What do you like most about playing football?

“I just love the team. We’re all family. We work out together. These are the days we will remember 20 years down the line. Also we play in front of a great crowd that loves us.”

How does Bishop Miege look going into next season?

“We look really good. Djimon Colbert transferred here so that’s another weapon. Carter Putz is a great quarterback. Cameron Clark is a sophomore running back and 600 yards last year. Colin Grunhard is a four-year starter of our offensive line. We have a great chance to win state if we put our mind to it.”

Does winning a third straight state title put any extra pressure on you?

“There is more pressure for that third straight title. We’re the main team. We have a great chance to win another state title. We have to keep grinding but if we put forth our best effort we have a great chance.”

Thank you for your time.

“Thank you sir.”
