The Longhorns added a big and versatile piece to their 2017 class on Friday when Montrell Estell verbally committed to Texas.

Estell did a little bit of everything for Hooks High School in 2015 rushing 33 times for 412 yards with four scores and pulling down 28 passes for 490 yards with five more touchdowns. He especially shinned on defense for the Hornets at safety tallying 69 tackles, four pass breakups, and six interceptions taking three back for a score.

Opposing high school coaches and local media liked what they saw in Estell naming him a 3A first team All-State defensive back after being name a first team All-District wide receiver as a sophomore. He was also named District MVP at the end of his junior season. College coaches liked what they saw in Estell as well. Throughout the spring, Estell has added several high-end offers with Arkansas, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Alabama all putting scholarships on the table as well as Texas. Other teams to offer Estell included Kansas, SMU, Texas-San Antonio, Tulane, Arkansas State, and Texas Tech.

Estell posted his decision on Twitter simply stating, “Blessed to say I have committed to the University of Texas!! #HookEm.”

With Estell, Texas has options once they get him on campus. The 6’2”, 180 pound, athlete reports a 4.39 time in the 40-yard dash.
