Acadiana High School, located in Lafayette (LA), is one of the most successful high school programs in the state. In 2019, the Wreckin’ Rams won their fifth state title since 2006 and finished the season with a 15-0 record. The state champions have a tradition of having a run-heavy offense every year but they have play-makers all over the field. One of rising stars is junior wide receiver Chrisitian Hawkins.

The 5’10”, 160-pound, play-maker made numerous plays in the passing game in 2019 including making a catch for a big first down in the state championship game. The Class of 2021 prospect is currently receiving interest from numerous colleges and will be attending several camps this upcoming summer.

Hawkins is not only a leader on the field but also in the classroom where he has 3.2 GPA and has plans to study business in college.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Christian to talk about his recruiting process and his career at Acadiana High School.

Interview

Christian, what are your thoughts on the 2019 season?

“Unbelievable. We were the No. 1 overall seed in 5A, finished the season 15-0, and won the state title. It was one of the best moments in my life and I will never forget it.”

What are your thoughts on your individual performance in your junior season?

“I played hard and made plays when my number was called to help my team win. I’m looking to get better this offseason and be even better in my senior year to help my team win.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“I have great hands, I can track the ball well in the air, and I come down with the catch.”

What was your most memorable moment in 2019?

“Lining up at wide receiver for the State Championship Game in the Super Dome on the same field that Michael Thomas plays on.”

Do you have any college offers?

“Not yet. I’m working hard to get better and hopefully they’ll come.”

Are there any schools showing you interest?

“Austin Peay and Arkansas Tech.”

Have you been on any college visits?

“I have several Junior Day visits lined up including Austin Peay, Southwest Oklahoma State, Alabama A&M, Arkansas Tech, and Bates College.”

Have you attended any college camps?

“I will be attending college camps throughout the summer and I’m ready to go out, compete and make a name for myself.”

Is there a current football player that you try to model your game after?

“DeAndre Hopkins.”

What is your fastest 40-yard time?

“4.6.”

What is your GPA?

“3.2.”

What is your favorite subject in school?

“Science.”

What do you want to study in school?

“Business.”

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

“My parents, because they support me in everything that I do by making sacrifices just so I can do what I love and live out my dream of playing college football.”

What is your favorite thing about playing at Acadiana High School?

“My coaches and teammates. Most of us have been playing together since we were young. Our coaches prepare us day after day to compete on the field and be gentlemen off the field. Plus, there is nothing like running out on that field on Friday nights as a Wrecking Ram.”

Thank you for your time.

“Thank you, sir.”
