The Scotlandville Hornets are off to an undefeated start in 2020 as the Hornets are 6-0 led by an offense that scores 33.8 points a game. One of the stars of the offense is junior running back Marlon Gunn Jr. who has racked up 746 yards on 78 carries with seven touchdowns.

The 5’11”, 195-pounder, has blazing speed in the open field and great athleticism to break tackles and escape defenders. Gunn also possesses tremendous footwork and ball security.

This Class of 2022 recruit currently has six offers including Virginia and is also receiving interest from several other schools including Texas and Mississippi State.

Not only is Gunn a speedster on the gridiron where he has a 4.51 40-yard dash time but he also stars on the track team. In the classroom, this junior star currently holds a 3.7 GPA.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Marlon to talk about his junior season at Scotlandville and get an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

Marlon, first off how would you grade your individual performance so far in the 2020 season?

I would give myself an 80 percent so far because I’ve had ups and downs this season so I’m nowhere near perfect.

What are your strengths on the football field?

My strengths are breaking tackles, pushing forward for positive yards, and seeing the hole and getting through it.

What is one area of your game that you’ve seen the most improvement in since the start of the regular season?

I would say being able to make one man miss because I’m not really shifty, but I have the speed to just run right by you.

What has been your most memorable moment so far this season?

When we beat Zachary, the coaches are dancing and going crazy. The atmosphere was crazy.

What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?

4.51.

What kind of offensive scheme does Scotlandville run?

I would say we have a run and gun type scheme.

How would you describe what kind of player you are?

I’m a great player. Coaches and teammates love me. I’m an all-around great person.

How would you describe what kind of teammate you are?

I’m a great teammate as I cheer brothers on. I have no selfishness.

Is there a current NFL running back that you try to model your game after?

Alvin Kamara and Leveon Bell.

What do you like most about playing at Scotlandville?

The exposure and how we work so hard and earn great things.

What would you say was your best game this season?

I would say the season opener against Captain Shreve. My speed, vision, and awareness were seen in the game and we all had fun.

Do you play any other sports in high school?

I run track.

How many college offers do you have?

I currently have six offers from Tulane, Southern University, Alcorn State, New Mexico, Virginia, and Louisiana Tech.

Are you receiving interest from any schools at this time?

Florida State, Texas, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Houston, and several more.

What schools are you most looking forward to visiting when you’re able to take visits?

All of them, I’m going to be so grateful for the opportunity.

What is your GPA?

3.7.

Do you have a favorite quote?

My favorite quote is, “success is a slow process, but quitting won’t speed it up.”

Thank you for your time and good luck the rest of the season.

Thank you, sir.
