The regular season has come to a close as we have reached the most exciting part of high school football, the state playoffs. Thirteen schools have been selected to participate in Louisiana’s Division I playoff bracket with Evangel Christian, John Curtis, and Scotlandville receiving the top three seeds and all earning first round byes.

Evangel Christian won the Division I state title in 2016 by routing Scotlandville in the championship game and is looking to win a second straight title so they can add one more trophy to their already loaded trophy case.

Despite the three top teams receiving a bye there are five very exciting matchups in this bracket. One very intriguing matchup to watch is Archbishop Rummel travelling all the way up to Shreveport to take on C.E. Byrd. If Byrd can advance, it could set up a quarterfinal matchup against district rival Evangel Christian.

Some key players in the opening round to watch include Archbishop Rummel wide receiver JaMarr Chase (Florida commit) and safety Aaron Brule (Georgia commit), Holy Cross wide receiver Kym Wimberly (Harvard commit), C.E. Byrd running back Jalin Thomas, St. Augustine running back Garland LaFrance (Texas Tech commit), and McKinley tight end Joshua Quiett (Tulane commit).

Who will step up and punch their way to the quarterfinals? Only time will tell.
