Louisiana Tech Lands Two Local Commits from Ouachita Parish High School

Louisiana Tech continues to land recruits in the 2016 class. In the past two days the Bulldogs have picked up verbal commits from high school teammates cornerback Zach Hannibal and offensive lineman Kenny Madison, who play at Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, Louisiana.

Cornerback Zach Hannibal is 6’1” 169 pounds.  The senior has a nice 33.6” vertical leap and an impressive 4.45 second 40 yard dash. Hannibal is rated as a three-star recruit according to 247sports.com. Last year was the cornerback’s first year of varsity football experience and he managed to lead his team with five interceptions.

Hannibal chose Louisiana Tech over University Louisiana-Monroe, Southern Miss, Colorado State and Army. Last year, the cornerback was selected first-team All-NELA and was an honorable mention All-State selection.

After his commitment, Hannibal said, “This is where my heart was. It just feels like family over there, from the coaches on down.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to be very good but I just worked hard and had faith.  Now here I am.”

Kenny Madison, 6’3”, 280 pounds, has played offensive guard and tackle in high school and is projected to play the same positions at Tech. The lineman has been described as smart, physical, and versatile on the football field.

Madison chose Louisiana Tech over Southern Miss and Tulane. “I know I made the right decision. I knew for a while that that’s where I wanted to go. I feel relieved to have the process over. I can focus on my Ouachita Lions now and try to go out with a bang.

New Bulldogs offensive line coach Robert McFarland has already been in contact with Madison and they talk often. Madison has a 3.7 GPA and plans to major in Civil Engineering at Louisiana Tech.

Ouachita head football coach Jeff Fitzgerald said, “Madison and Hannibal are cut from the same cloth in that Tech is getting two high character players.”

Since Coach Skip Holtz took over Louisiana Tech in 2012, the running theme with their recruits is the family-like atmosphere on campus. Hannibal and Madison are the sixth and seventh recruits in the Class of 2016 class.
