LSU continues hot recruiting streak in June, land two on Wednesday

LSU has been one of the hottest college football programs in the nation in the month of June landing seven verbal commitments including two on Wednesday in defensive end Rahssan Thornton and Eric Monroe.

Thornton, 6’3.5”, 225 pounds, has seen his recruiting stock rise in recent weeks. Teams like Cal, Michigan, and Kansas were on the Shoemaker High School talent early in the year but since May LSU, Texas, and TCU have all offered. Thornton also has offers from Oklahoma, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Tulsa, SMU, Texas State, Oregon State, and Texas Tech.

The Killeen, Texas native jumped on the recruiting map during his junior season recording 61 total tackles including 22.5 tackles for a loss with 5 sacks.

While Eric Monroe might not be the highest ranked player LSU will land in the 2016 class he is certainly a steal for the Tigers. The 4-star recruit from Manor High School is considered one of the top safeties in the nation. The 6’0”, 180 pounder, is compact but known for his playmaking abilities stopping the run and covering the pass.

Sixteen schools have reported offers on the table for Monroe including Florida, Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Baylor, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Missouri, Kentucky, and UCLA. The Tigers landing the Texas native from the Houston area is a big get considering how well the Cougars have recruited their backyard lately and how hard Texas A&M and Texas went after him.

Caleb Roddy kicked off the month of June for the Tigers with a commitment followed by Jakori Savage, Andre Anthony, Erick Fowler along with Monroe and Thornton. LSU now has 17 verbal commitments to their 2016 class.
