The Florida Gators went into last week’s contest splitting time under center with Will Grier and Treon Harris. The same scenario may be in play in Week 3 against Kentucky but for the second consecutive game the redshirt freshman will get the start over the sophomore.

Florida held home field against East Carolina building a 31-17 lead before winning 31-24. Grier started the game posting mixed results but got two pluses in the right column over the sophomore Harris tossing two scoring passes. Harris was in limited use last weekend connecting on 5-of-8 passes for 54 yards while rushing three times for another 32 yards. Grier ended the game 10-of-17 for 151 yards with two scores and one pick. Grier also picked up positive yards on the ground rushing three times for 10 yards.

Both quarterbacks have posted similar stat lines. Grier has 317 yards, four total touchdown passes against just one pick while Harris has thrown for 269 yards with two touchdowns without an interception. Grier has a completion percentage of 74 and Harris is right behind him at 70. Harris has 55 rushing yards while Grier has 53.

The seemingly dead-heat competition will get a tougher test with a road trip to Kentucky (2-0). The Wildcats have started the season off with a 40-33 win over Louisiana-Lafayette and a 26-22 road win over South Carolina.

The SEC East adversaries will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
