The Tigers 2017 recruiting class took another big step towards completion on Wednesday when Alabama weakside defensive end Jamal Woods committed to Memphis.

Woods started drawing regional recruiting interest after a standout season with Hueytown High School during his junior season. Primarily lining up at defensive tackle and sometimes at nose in a 3-4 set, the 6’4”, 240 pound, athlete used his speed and strength to be a constant threat in the opposition’s backfield. Woods proved to be a sideline to sideline player against 6A competition routinely running down plays heading the other way and downfield. When the season was finished, Woods came up with 75 tackles and six sacks.

Memphis gained Woods’ commitment over offers from Middle Tennessee State, Jacksonville State, Georgia State, Alcorn State, South Alabama, Samford, Troy, Southern Miss, and Tulane.

Woods made his announcement public on Twitter posting:
