Want to know if you are a talented receiver or not? One way to tell is if a defense commits three of 11 players on the field to stopping you at all times. When Vernell Brown (5-11.5, 170) takes the field for Jones High School (Orlando, Fla.), that is what the 2025 standout sees. That ability to break defenses at the next level is coveted by 25 teams with bluebloods tracking the progress.

Other Florida squads are showing their respect by how they cover Brown.

“It has been a pretty good season so far,” Brown said. “Since the Jesuit game, teams have been game planning against me; I’ve been working around that. Besides being 0-2, everything is good. We should be back on track to winning this week.”

Not resting on his offers or four-star status, Brown gets after it every day in practice.

“Catching, I do that every day outside of practice,” Brown stated. “As a receiver, you have to catch. In practice I am working on running routes and route concepts.”

Brown continued talking about his growth as a player, “The knowledge of the game, being able to read coverages faster, playing a higher level of football, getting off the ball quicker, finding holes in coverages is where I am improving the most, and getting open within those coverages.”

Over the summer, Brown visited Ohio State and went on a bus tour that included stops at Duke and Alabama. Teams getting to see Brown in person has sparked more recruiting interest.

“There are a lot, some more than others, but the schools showing the most interest are FSU, Miami, Clemson, Ohio State, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, and more,” Brown shared.

With Florida State, Miami, and Tennessee among the teams working hard to build that bond, the Seminoles hosted their 2025 target for the season opener at Camping World Stadium against LSU.

“It was great,” Brown said. “I enjoyed the scenery; I loved everything about it. The visit gave me the football season feel, it was great. I loved it.”

Brown covered his recruiting bond with FSU, “We have a pretty good relationship. We are still building on it. As far as right now, I think it is pretty good.”

Another top 25 game is on the schedule for Brown this weekend.

“My family and I will be at Miami this weekend for their game against Texas A&M on Saturday,” Brown stated. “After that it is possible to do more visits. We haven’t fully worked it out, but it should be set in the next few weeks.”

It always makes a difference when college coaches can see players in person.

“Ever since my school went to their 7-on-7 tournament this summer, Miami has shown real love,” Brown shared. “We have built a really good relationship, and we are continuing to build it. I would say it is a really good relationship so far.”

On getting to see the game at Hard Rock Stadium, Brown added, “I’m extremely excited. This is my first time actually down there on a visit. The 7-on-7 tournament, that was my first time there ever. I’m excited to spend quality time with the staff and watch Miami play a big game against Texas A&M.”
