After finishing up his career at Dollarway High School in Pine Bluff, Ark., Maximus McArthur has taken his talents to Vermilion Community College in Minnesota. In his first taste of college action on Aug. 28, the power back contributed with 30 rush yards on five carries and grabbed three passes for 40 more yards. As McArthur gels with Vermilion’s offense, expect a big season from the power back.

At 5’10”, 225 pounds, McArthur is a downhill runner with great ability to break tackles plowing over defenders for the tough yards. Proving to be an every down back, McArthur also has the ability to make plays in the passing game and can pick up the blitz protecting his quarterback.

McArthur was drawn to Vermilion due to the great relationship he has with his new head coach, Terrence Isaac, and the connection he has with his new teammates. That bond is important as McArthur has his sights set on winning a national championship.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Maximus to talk about his football career as he prepared for college football.

Interview

Maximus, what are your thoughts on the first game of the season?

It was a good atmosphere but I feel we can do better as a team overall.

What are your strengths on the football field?

I’m a downhill runner. I can run hard and catch out of the backfield.

What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?

4.5.

Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?

Ezekiel Elliot.

What did you work on the most this offseason?

I worked on getting faster and stronger. I want to get more elusive.

How was preseason camp with first year head coach Terrence Isaac?

It was great; we ran a lot. He taught me how to be a better leader and player on and off the field.

What are your goals for the rest of the season?

Win a championship first, and I want to be a better player on and off the field and earn D-I offers.

What is your favorite thing about playing and attending Vermilion Community College?

The love of the game. I want to win the day both on the football field and in the classroom.

What game left on the schedule are you most looking forward to playing?

Itasca, because my cousin plays for them.

What is your routine during the week leading up to gameday?

I run a lot, and get better every day.

Do you have any pregame rituals?

My quarterback and I have a special handshake.

Who is your role model and why?

My mom, because she did everything for me growing up. I thank God for her. I love her passion.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Hopefully playing in the NFL. I feel that I’m an NFL-type back.

Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?

Jeremiah 29:11.

Thank you for your time and good luck the rest of the season.

Thank you, sir.
