The Ole Miss recruiting train continued to plow through the countryside landing in-state Jones County defensive end Markel Winters late Tuesday night.

Winters has taken the long way to the Mississippi program coming out of James Rickards High School in Tallahassee (FL) signing with East Carolina as part of the 2014 class. A late snag in the plan sent the 6’3”, 260 pound, end to Jones County Junior College in Ellisville.

During his freshman campaign during the 2015 season, Winters recorded 33 total tackles, 18 solo, coming up with five sacks, and two fumble recoveries earning All-MACJC honors. Recruiting for Winters has not truly taken off yet with just Ole Miss and Mississippi State putting out early offers.

As a member of the Pirates 2014 class, Rivals rated Winters as a 2-star prospect. At that time, Winters had offers from South Florida, Central Florida, Western Kentucky, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic, Old Dominion, and Northern Illinois.

Ole Miss now has two verbal commitments to their 2017 class after signing 24 to their 2016 haul.
