Lucas Oitker was a jack-of-all-trades for the Oak Park Northmen during the 2020 campaign. The 6’1”, 195-pound, athlete showed off his versatility while racking up 85 rushing yards on 13 carries, snagging 20 passes for 195 passes then also making plays on special teams where he averaged 20 yards per return. Overall, he had three total touchdowns. After the season, he was named All-Conference Honorable Mention at tight end.

Oitker has tremendous athleticism, footwork, and field vision while also possessing a good football IQ and unselfishness both on and off the field. He just enjoys doing whatever the coaches need to help his team win.

This Class of 2022 recruit is already drawing interest from colleges on all levels so it’s only a matter of time before he receives his first offer.

Not only is Otiker a player to watch on the gridiron but he also plays baseball and is an All-Conference wrestler.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with this three-sport star to talk about his junior football season and career at Oak Park.

Interview

Lucas, how would you grade your individual performance during your junior season?

Personally, I believe you should always strive to get better, but this season was a huge improvement over my sophomore season. I made big gains contributing to the team this year and was able to execute plays when given the opportunity. I don’t believe I was able to showcase all of my skills, but am hopeful this will be different in my senior season.

What would you say was your best game and why?

Truman was my best game of the season. I had three catches for a total of 51 yards with a 30-yard receiving touchdown, two carries for 20 rushing yards, and three returns and averaged 22 yards with a long of 27.

What are your strengths on the football field?

My athletic skills and ability allow me to fill many roles on the field but, I believe my biggest strength is being a coachable athlete. The way I receive coaching and my desire to learn all aspects of my position paired with my work ethic on and off the field help me contribute to the team.

Did you receive any individual honors?

All- Conference Honorable Mention at tight end.

What kind of offensive scheme does Oak Park run?

Heavy run with a passing game.

How do your skills fit into this scheme?

I have the speed to run a variety of routes to catch the ball and my strength helps me be an effective blocker.

How would you describe what kind of player you are?

I am a physical player with a heart for the game. I study the playbook day in and out to know everyone’s assignments on the field to help the team be more successful. I enjoy guiding younger or less experienced players to grow and be successful.

How would you describe what kind of teammate you are?

I feel that I’m a leader, my leadership style is leading by example. I put 100 percent into training, practices, and in games. I always congratulate my teammates and help them focus on the positive side of situations.

What is one area of your game that you saw the most improvement in over the course of the season?

Blocking and catching. To be successful at my position I knew blocking would be required so I focused on lifting and getting stronger as well as working with a speed/agility coach to get faster.

What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?

4.67.

Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?

George Kittle; he really focuses on the blocking aspect of the game, as well as having the ability to catch and run the ball.

What do you like most about playing at Oak Park High School?

My teammates. I’ve known many of them since elementary school.

Do you play any other sports in high school?

Yes, I play baseball and wrestle. I received First Team All-Conference at 182 pounds in wrestling for my sophomore season. Unfortunately, our spring baseball season was cut short due to COVID, but I was able to play summer and fall club baseball.

What is your favorite subject in school and why?

Math, because it was a weakness when I was younger. I really had to work hard to overcome this and now excel in this subject. I’m grateful for my two older sisters’ willingness to tutor me.

What is your GPA?

3.8 unweighted.

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

My family. They are always there in the stands as well as in life supporting me and pushing me to strive further.

Are there any other schools showing interest in you?

I’ve received some interest from some FBS and FCS schools. I’m enjoying connecting with the coaches and look forward to continuing the recruiting process especially after COVID restrictions are lifted.

What are your goals for the offseason?

For me there really isn’t an offseason, because I play and train in all three sports year-round as well as lifting and speed/agility training.

Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?

Luke 1:37: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

Thank you for your time today.

Thank you, sir.
