Hunter Martin had a breakout campaign for the Winnetonka Griffins in 2020. The junior linebacker racked up 84 total tackles including 29 for a loss, two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in just nine games.

The 6’0”, 180-pound, tackle machine has tremendous speed, agility, and athleticism which enables him to make plays all over the field including sideline to sideline. He also plays with great intensity and is very physical.

With one more season in the Griffins program, Hunter is excited to work hard, get better, and have an even more monstrous campaign in 2021.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Hunter to talk about his junior season at Winnetonka.

Interview

Hunter, how would you grade your performance on the field during your junior season?

I thought we had a great season and I thought we kept getting better, especially defensively. I think I came into my own and figured out what I’m trying to achieve.

What would you say was your best game and why?

I believe that the Smithville game was my best because I kept a good mindset and played downhill. I read my keys and made plays. In the game, I had nine tackles including five for a loss.

What are your strengths on the football field?

My speed and ability to go sideline to sideline. I’m also very physical.

Did you receive any individual honors?

First team All-Conference. District and state awards haven’t come out yet.

What kind of defensive scheme does Winnetonka run?

We run a 3-4 defense.

How do your skills fit into this scheme?

I play weakside inside linebacker so I’m able to play over the top of the front side and play in space to the weak side. I think it fits my speed and style.

How would you describe what kind of player you are?

I’m fast, tough and I play the game because I love it.

How would you describe what kind of teammate you are?

I’m caring but with tough love. I want everyone to be their best so we can win.

What are your maxes in the weight room?

My max squat is 310, bench is 250, and my max hang clean is 225.

Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?

I loved the way Brian Urlacher played, but in today’s NFL. I admire Mac Wilson.

What is your favorite subject in school and why?

Math, because it’s structured and I enjoy numbers.

What do you like most about playing at Winnetonka?

My teammates and my coaches, I love the energy and effort they bring.

What is your GPA?

2.407.

Are you receiving interest from any colleges?

My coach has talked to a few colleges about me. I’m excited for the spring to get out to some camps and compete.

Thank you for your time today.

Thank you, sir.
