Missouri High School Football Class 5 Playoff Second Round Preview

It was an exciting week in the first round in the Missouri Class 5 playoffs with several upsets and with a few teams showing how they are capable of going all the way to the 2015 championship game.

The upsets in the first round included Webster Groves (5-5) taking down Ladue (7-4), 28-20, while Glendale (5-6) put up an incredible 76 points against Springfield Central (5-6) in their 76-48 win.

Park Hill, Pattonville, and Summit all shutout their opponents last week and have great momentum going into their second matchups.

Several teams including Fox, Chaminade, Carthage, Republic, Smith-Cotton, Staley, Truman, Fort Osage, Washington and Fort Zumwalt North had a bye in the first round and will all look to make their mark on the playoffs this week in hopes of making deep runs through the bracket.

As the second round gets under way on Friday, look for these players to have big games for their teams: Fort Osage quarterback Skylar Thompson (Kansas State)

Chaminade defensive back Roderick Campbell (Northwestern)

Battle defensive back Jerrion Nelson who has 11 Division-I offers

Park Hill safety Davion Tyler who has three Division-I offers

Park Hill running back Matt Harris who has interest from Missouri

Battle defensive end Plais Dow who also has received interest from Missouri

Some key games to watch in the second round include Liberty North at Park Hill, Truman at William Chrisman, Popular Bluff at Fox, and Vianney at Summit.

Second Round Games and First Round Scores

Poplar Bluff (8-2) @ Fox (7-2)

Popular Bluff defeated Oakville 37-19 while Fox had a first round bye.

 

Vianney (8-3) @ Summit (9-2)

Vianney blew out Jackson 49-14 while Summit shut out Parkway South 35-0.

 

Hazelwood East (6-5) @ Chaminade (8-1)

Hazelwood East got past McCluer North, 32-12, while Chaminade had a first round bye.

 

Webster Groves (5-5) @ Pattonville (8-3)

Webster Groves upset Ladue, 28-20, while Pattonville shutout McCluer, 37-0.

 

Glendale (5-6) @ Republic (5-4)

Glendale blew out Springfield Central, 76-48, while Republic had a first round bye.

 

Nixa (6-5) @ Parkview (6-5)

Nixa routed Branson, 49-12, and Parkview blew out Ozark, 46-18.

 

Belton (8-3) @ Smith-Cotton (9-0)

Belton doubled up Willard, 48-24, while Smith-Cotton had a first round bye.

 

Neosho (8-3) @ Carthage (8-1)

Neosho shutout Ruskin, 42-0, while Carthage had a first round bye.

 

Parkway Central (8-3) @ Fort Zumwalt North (9-0)

Parkway Central took down Fort Zumwalt East, 22-9, and Fort Zumwalt North had a first round bye.

 

Parkway West (6-5) @ Parkway North (8-3)

Parkway West upset Fort Zumwalt South, 38-28, and Parkway North blew out Holt, 70-6.

 

Waynesville (5-6) @ Battle (7-2)

Waynesville defeated Camdenton, 19-7, while Battle had a first round bye.

 

Lebanon (7-4) @ Washington (6-3)

Lebanon blew out Rolla, 42-16, and Washington had a first round bye.

 

Raytown (5-6) @ Fort Osage (8-1)

Raytown escaped past North Kansas City, 14-12, while Fort Osage had a first round bye.

 

Truman (7-2) @ William Chrisman (5-6)

Truman had a first round bye while William Chrisman blew out Winnetonka, 48-13.

 

St. Joseph Central (5-6) @ Staley (8-1)

St. Joseph Central blew out Liberty, 49-7, while Staley had a first round bye.

 

Liberty North (9-2) @ Park Hill (9-1)

Liberty North took down Park Hill South, 28-16, and Park Hill had a first round bye.
