The first round of the Class 4 playoffs in Missouri provided fans with quite a few exciting games including a handful of upsets. Riverview Gardens, a one-win team, went on the road and won at Clayton, 24-20, and their reward is that they get to host their second round matchup against St. Dominic. Another upset was when MICDS won 38-27 at St. Charles West. One of the most exciting games of the first round was when Smithville escaped past Lafayette (St. Joseph), 21-14.

There were three teams including Harrisonville, University City, and Westminster that shutout their first round opponent gaining extra momentum going into this weekend.

As the playoffs continue this weekend, there are still many star players that are working hard to lead their teams on deep playoff runs. These players include Kearney linebacker Cale Garret (Navy), Hannibal offensive lineman Dylan Powell (Purdue), Webb City offensive lineman Trystan Castillo (Missouri), Hannibal athlete Jerry McBride III (Bowling Green), Center High School tight end Robert Gillum who has received interest from Kansas and Missouri, and West Plains offensive tackle Jett Sexton who has two offers from Austin Peay and Illinois State.

A few key games to watch this weekend include Carl Junction at Webb City, Warrenton at Mexico and Platte County at Smithville.

It’s time to separate the men from the boys as the 32 teams left in the playoffs battle for a spot in the third round.
