The Tigers landed their first verbal commitment for the 2018 class on Wednesday reeling in a very athletic dual-threat quarterback in James Foster.

The future in the pocket at Missouri under head coach Barry Odom is clear after landing 2017 dual-threat Taylor Powell and with Foster, the Tigers will throw the ball all over the field and punish defenses with a running quarterback when possible. Foster showed glimpses of what is to come as his skillset continues to evolve during his junior season helping Sidney Lanier High School to an 8-3 finish against Alabama 6A competition.

Foster, playing in a four-wide spread offense and lining up under center part-time, displayed a wide array of talents in 2016 showing off the ability to throw on the run, elude the rush, and deliver a strike downfield with a very strong right arm. The 6-3, 210 pound, playmaker covers a lot of ground with his 4.5 listed speed. Perhaps not the strongest running quarterback in the 2018 class in terms of polish, but the speed and want to is there.

Missouri won Foster’s commitment over a growing list of hopeful suitors nearing 20 programs. Among the many to extend an offer included Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Troy, Illinois, Louisville, Cincinnati, Arizona, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Foster posted his announcement on Twitter:

Foster is listed as a four-star with ESPN ranked No. 89 overall in the 2018 class while 247Sports lists him as a three-star. The Tigers are off to a great start landing a strong talent to build around. 247Sports listed Mizzou’s 2017 recruiting class No. 42 in the nation, No. 13 overall in the SEC, after signing 26 commits in February.
