The Cornhuskers added to their playmaking haul in the 2017 recruiting class on Saturday when California wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey committed to Nebraska.

Lindsey is another California product added to Nebraska’s class. Although Lindsey played his last two seasons of high school ball with Bishop Gorman, the 5-9, 175 pound, speedster is originally from the southern California area at one time expected to play his senior season at Centennial High School in Corona.

Four-star status was given to Lindsey after a sophomore season with 34 receptions for 884 yards and 15 touchdowns and a junior campaign with 45 receptions, 1,117 yards, and 14 more scores. His senior season was limited to three games with the Gaels but in those three contests pulled in five passes for 125 yards with two trips to the end zone. Gorman won another Nevada state title in 2016 finishing the season ranked No. 1 in the country by MaxPreps after posting a 15-0 record.

On Tuesday Jan. 10, Lindsey surprised the football world with a decommitment from Ohio State. The Buckeyes initially gained Lindsey’s commitment on Aug. 22 taking an official to Columbus on Oct. 29. The U.S. Army All-American had 27 reported scholarship offers to choose from among the top programs in the nation. Lindsey posted a commitment update on Twitter stating, “God will ensure my success in accordance with his plan not mine.” The post was accompanied with a photo of him wearing a No. 6 Nebraska jersey.

The addition of Lindsey to Nebraska’s class potentially fills two very big needs, a slot receiver that can score from anywhere on the field and a punt returner who can change the outcomes of games with his speed and abilities.

Nebraska fans are starting to amp up the enthusiasm on the recruiting trail after a cold spell. The Cornhuskers staff added 12 recruits from March through early August but let all of that momentum slide once the 2016 season started. Defensive tackle Deiontae Watts committed on Sept. 17 with fans waiting until Christmas Day for the next verbal commit in linebacker Andrew Ward. January is starting to heat up with running back Jaylin Bradley and now Lindsey getting into the mix.

247Sports rates Nebraska’s 2017 class No. 23 in the nation, No. 5 overall in the Big Ten. The 16 verbal commits for Nebraska is rated No. 27 in the country by Rivals with six four-star recruits and 10 three-star players.
