The last couple of days have turned into a win-win kind of weekend for the Nebraska staff. On Saturday the Cornhuskers took down the Oregon Ducks 35-32 at Memorial Stadium and then on Sunday received a verbal from visiting Texas defensive tackle Deiontae Watts.

Watts helped his recruiting efforts during his junior season taking on 6A classification talent for Plano East. The Panthers went 7-4 with Watts contributing 20 tackles, 16 solo, with a tackle for a loss through five games.

Colleges see the size, potential, and productivity Watts could bring to their defensive front once on campus. The 6-3, 302 pound, talent was in the neighborhood of 20 offers when he committed to Nebraska picking the Cornhuskers over Oklahoma, Baylor, Colorado, Arkansas, Texas A&M, USC, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, and Ole Miss among others.

Watts made his decision public on Twitter posting, “GOBIGRED #GBR #HUSKER” followed by a statement:

The Cornhuskers now have 15 verbal commitments to their 2017 class. 247Sports ranks the current haul as the No. 23 recruiting class in the nation.
