There are certain players who are freakish athletically that make plays standing out in a group around 21 other players on the gridiron. At Pittsboro’s (NC) Northwood High School, that guy is Gus Ritchey. Lining up at tight end/H-back and defensive end, Ritchey has impressed earning 22 scholarships. The offer sheet is fantastic and is set to earn some company.

The Class of 2025 talent shared which teams are looking deeper ahead of offering.

“The schools showing interest so far are South Carolina, Clemson, Florida State, and Tennessee has been reaching out here and there,” Ritchey said.

The four-star continued adding detail to which programs are in heavy contact, “I’d say right now, the in-state schools, UNC, NC State, and Duke. They have been communicating a lot with me. I have called them and gone on visits there. They really show high interest.

“Schools not in-state, Miami, they’ve been recruiting me heavily, especially right after they offered about a week ago. They are recruiting me heavily. Colorado, Texas A&M, Georgia, Washington, Notre Dame, and Virginia Tech have been doing a great job. There are a lot of schools showing love and interest. I am really glad they have; it has opened a variety of options to see where home is at.”

Programs from all over have worked to get Ritchey in their facilities.

“On Tuesday and Wednesday, I spent time down in Miami,” Ritchey said. “That was an amazing visit. I spent time with their tight ends coach, coach (Cody) Woodiel, and with coach (Mario) Cristobal. Their assistants took care of me.

Michigan, that was a really cool visit. They have a great atmosphere. Notre Dame was also a great visit. I am from Indiana originally, that was a big visit for me and my family.

“In-state, I visited NC state. That was incredible. UNC was really cool. Duke was amazing too. I also visited Maryland. Those are the schools I have visited lately. They all did a great job showing me where I am at as a player.”

Earning scholarship offers on both sides of the ball, Virginia Tech and Duke are after Ritchey as a defender, college coaches are sharing pointers with their target to help his progress on the field.

“They want to see me grow and to develop,” Ritchey shared. “The other thing is they want to see me this year improve on certain things. Each school will tell you something to work on so when you come in you are trained, and the preparation is there; that has meant a lot to me. They are really just basic things like when running a route dipping your shoulder, not letting the DB slow your route up, and try this move to go get the quarterback.”

Staying local, Ritchey will spend Saturday with the Tar Heels.

“UNC has their spring game on Saturday, I will be there,” Ritchey said. “I am really excited for that. I am also attending Notre Dame’s spring game. I am really pumped for that one. It will be awesome to see South Bend in action – I am really pumped. I might visit Texas A&M at some point; I got to get that date set. Then we start up spring ball, I am really excited for that.”
