Notre Dame added their seventh 4-star commitment to the 2017 recruiting class Friday afternoon when Illinois wide receiver picked the Fighting Irish over some 15 other offers.

Robertson was a two-way star for Neuqua Valley High School during the 2015 season coming up with nine touchdowns and four interceptions from an incomplete stat line. The 6’3”, 190 pound, talent had pulled in offers from teams like Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Central Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Toledo, Syracuse, Miami (OH), Maryland, and Cincinnati but Notre Dame always seemed to be his top choice.

Notre Dame had hosted Robertson on two other visits with the last being April 2 when he finally secured his offer from the Irish. In a previous RNG interview with Robertson, when asked about his last visit to South Bend he responded with, “When we were there for my second time, it was great. We didn’t talk about football and all that stuff. They talked about what Notre Dame offers away from the field. I needed to see the other things they can offer me with a good education. They showed me all of that. It was really important to me to learn more about their education and degree programs. I was very interested in all that they showed me.”

While Robertson’s commitment was no big surprise the timing of his commitment was a little surprising after previously stating he would “make a decision by the end of the summer” adding “I want to get this over with before my season so I can enjoy it.”

Robertson’s commitment went national via Twitter with him posting:

Notre Dame now has 10 verbal commitments to their 2017 class. The early draw to the class are tight ends Brock Wright and Cole Kmet. Both are 4-star recruits and ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the 2017 recruiting class respectively. The Irish have secured commitments from seven players since March 19 when dual-threat quarterback Avery Davis pledged to Notre Dame.
