A list of favorite schools posted back in early February by Booker Pickett Jr. is about to get an update. The four-star edge rusher out of Tampa’s (Fla.) Wharton High School shared nine early contenders for his verbal commitment, but only a handful of teams may get him on campus for an official visit.

While fellow 2024 prospects spent part of their summer break taking official visits, Pickett (6-4, 206) opted to wait only visiting Florida State on his own dime.

“My relationship with FSU is cool,” Pickett said. “Coach (Adam) Fuller (D) and I have been connected for a while now; we are close. I see what they have building, and I like it.”

Pickett spoke about his official visit plans, “I will take them during the season. I am still working on it with the coaches, but I should set them soon.”

The list of favorites shared in February included Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and USC. Which teams are in the running to host him this fall?

“Mostly my top schools, FSU, Ohio State, Miami, Georgia, and I might go to South Carolina,” Pickett shared.

Details into the relationship with Ohio State, Miami, Georgia, and South Carolina was shared.

Ohio State: “Ohio State, I have always liked Ohio State. I’ve always watched them because of my uncle (Ryan Pickett). They want me as a hybrid linebacker. I like what they have planned for me and I like how they are setting me up for success.”

Miami: “I love coach (Mario) Cristobal. My dad (Booker Pickett Sr.) knows just about everyone at Miami. My dad played with coach Cristobal. With Miami, I fit in with the culture and the staff.”

Georgia: “With the Bulldogs, they always have a great vibe, and they have a winning culture; you can’t go wrong with Georgia.”

South Carolina: “With South Carolina, I have been there once, and I loved it. I love their coaches. I see how they are improving. When I watch them, I get excited. There is always something unexpected with South Carolina.”

The official visits should start early in the college football season with a possible commitment coming mid-fall.

“I will probably commit in October or November, maybe earlier,” Pickett said.
