La Habra High School is a working ground for high school athletes preparing to make their way to the collegiate level. Another talent putting the hard work into the grind to assure himself of a shot playing in the college spotlight is outside linebacker/safety Justin Brewer. Brewer (6-2, 208) had a breakout season in 2018 coming up with 80 tackles, 32 solo, two tackles for a loss, a sack, four QB hurries and an interception playing in all 11 Highlander games. Regional interest has been building and is now spreading cross country for Brewer.

In a quick RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with Brewer to get the latest on his offseason workouts and growing recruiting interests.

Interview

Justin, we talked in November about how your game had come along during the 2018 season. Since then, what all have you been working on this offseason to improve your skill level?

“This offseason I have been working on getting faster and stronger. I’m playing 7v7, working out, and getting ready for the season.”

Where are you seeing improvement already with your workouts?

“I’m seeing improvements with my catch-up speed and my hips – getting my hips turning more fluidly.”

I saw you grinding away at a ProWay workout recently. How is training with ProWay helping improve your game?

“It is helping a lot actually. Knowing what to do in different coverages and schemes, my knowledge of the game is improving. Guarding different receivers is also helping my cover skills.”

How is everything going in the weight room?

“It is going well. I can bench over 300 pounds now.”

Impressive. With all the work you are already putting in, what is your personal goal for your senior year?

“My goal is to be league MVP at linebacker.”

I like it. Which schools are showing interest in you?

“I am receiving interest from Columbia, Cal, Northern Arizona, Cal-Poly San Louis Obispo, Pennsylvania, and Iowa State.”

Do you have any planned visits you may take upcoming?

“I am planning on visiting Cal, Columbia, and Northern Arizona.”

The bowl season is officially in full-swing. Have you watched any good games yet and/or are there any games you are excited about seeing?

“I want to see Clemson verses Notre Dame and Michigan verses Florida.”

Those two should be great games. Justin, thanks for your time today and good luck with your offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
