The Red Wolves landed their tenth verbal commitment in the 2017 recruiting class on Thursday when offensive guard Andre Harris Jr. pledged to Arkansas State.

Some college coaches may have overlooked Harris. During the 2015 season, Putnam City North High School suffered through a 2-8 mark playing against Oklahoma 6A competition but Harris was a bright spot on the Panthers squad. Recruiting started to pick up for Harris over the summer with teams like Kentucky Christian and East Central University offering but then bigger Division-I programs like New Mexico, Purdue, New Mexico State, and Louisiana-Monroe along with South Dakota State started coming around. ASU offered Harris on June 12.

Red Wolves Nation found out about Harris’ commitment from video taken during a Putnam City North High School pep rally. The 6-3, 330 pound, road grader was well supported by teammates and fans when he pulled an Arkansas State hat out of a box announcing he was committing to the Red Wolves. Harris added a post on Twitter reading “It’s official” followed by a statement:

Arkansas State’s staff has put an early emphasis on recruiting up front. Seven of the commitments are slotted to line up in the trenches once in Jonesboro.

Putnam City North starts their 2016 season Friday night against Putnam City.
