Written by Ryan Wright

Recruiting efforts for Oklahoma during the offseason has not given Sooner Nation much to get excited about over the last six months until now. As the college football season approaches interest in recruiting is expected to pick up especially after Oklahoma landed to big recruits over the last two days; safety Chanse Sylvie and outside linebacker Bryce Youngquist.

Sylvie is an immediate impact kind of player for the Sooners. The 6’0”, 185 pound, safety has helped Calvary Baptist Academy to back-to-back Louisiana State Championships coming up with 121 tackles in 2013 and 122 as a junior.

Playing for one of the more elite teams in the nation over the last two seasons has made Sylvie one of the more widely recruited safeties in the 2016 class with over 30 offers listed. Some of the teams ponying up scholarship offers included Notre Dame, Arkansas, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Baylor, Arizona State, Ole Miss, TCU, Arizona, Tennessee, Utah, Missouri, and Cal.

Sylvie made the announcement official on Twitter posting, “I will like to announce that after many prayers and restless night I have committed to the University of Oklahoma #OU.”

Youngquist is another potential candidate for early playing time. The 6’2”, 215 pound, outside linebacker was a one-time heavy Oregon lean announcing them as his leader but then took unofficial visits to Oklahoma and Wisconsin having a change of heart.

Youngquist also made his announcement official on Twitter writing, “I am officially committing to the University of Oklahoma! #OU16 #OUDNA #CALISOONER #BOOMERSOONER #B2GCertified.”

The Los Osos High School star, like Sylvie, is considered a 4-star recruit. Beyond Oregon, Oklahoma also out-dueled Arizona State, Tennessee, Utah, Northwestern, Illinois, Fresno State, Nevada, Washington State, Colorado, and San Diego State for Youngquist’s commitment.

The Sooners now have eight total verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class.
