After another season playing youth ball, Class of 2025 receiver/strong safety Jase Nix has received an early call up getting to test his growing skills and athleticism against high school competition. With the 2020 California high school football season still in waiting, area players are taking to the fields when possible playing 7v7 and 11-on-11 padded club football. In the mix of the older crowd is the 13-year-old rising eighth grader. Beyond getting an early taste of varsity football, Nix (5-8, 145) was part of a padded team that went to Florida in December playing in a four-game tournament finishing third with a 3-1 record.

After repeated impressive outings against Southern California and national competition, the San Marcos area talent stopped by the RNG Lab to fill us in on the buzz he is creating on the local gridirons.

Interview

Jase, how have your offseason workouts going?

They are going really well. I have mainly been focusing on my speed and agility.

When the upcoming season gets going, which positions might you be playing?

Receiver and strong safety.

How have you prepared fundamentally for your role on offense?

I have been working on my speed and agility running hills, doing the ladders, and cone drills.

And what about for your role on defense?

The same thing, and I have been working on my technique.

Have you been playing 7v7 ball?

Yes, I have been playing with Fast Camp.

At which divisions or levels?

At 14-U and high school.

What has getting that high school experience been like for you?

It is really good. I love the competition.

Playing against the older guys, what have you learned that has helped you progress on the field as a football player?

To be more physical and to not let them bully me because I am smaller.

Are you also playing club ball?

Yes, in the Champions League on N67 Legion.

At which positions?

Receiver and strong safety.

Playing 7v7 and padded ball, where are you seeing the improvements in your game already this offseason?

My improvement has been with my speed, I have gotten a lot faster, and with my hands. With defense, my backpedal and reading the quarterback has improved.

Are you done with club ball or is that still ongoing?

We just got back from Florida playing in a championship there. Our first game is in two weeks.

How did the team do in Florida playing for the championship?

It went really well. We went 3-1 and got third place.

Last question. What do you love about playing football?

I love the competition and getting better. The competition is my favorite part of the game.

Jase, it was great talking to you today. Good luck with all the on the field activities still to comet this winter and spring.

Thank you, sir.
