Davey Lawrence throws like Moon and runs like Payton, a different kind of “Sweetness” for the modern game. The state of Alabama has been prolific turning out a long list of highly regarded recruits year after year, when Lawrence’s time comes, the dual threat will be one of those guys being courted by programs across the country.

Pleasant Grove Middle School was the place to be during the 2023 season for highlight film action.

“We ran a Spread with four wide, and trips right and left,” Lawrence stated. “We ran outs, posts, slants, corners, digs, hitches, and whips.”

Seeing himself as a “fast and physical dual threat”, Lawrence talked about the things he does well on the field, “Reading defenses, my footwork, and how fast I am.”

Extra work on the field will come with PME’s 14u 7-on-7 squad. Focusing on his skills in the pocket, Lawrence has a plan for that.

“I work with QB Country, coach Ben Hill,” Lawrence shared. “We work on my footwork, accuracy, deep balls, and mechanics.”

One in-state program has already taken a shine to Lawrence.

“I have follows on Twitter from Oregon, ULM, Michigan State, Valpo, Alabama, and UAB,” ” Lawrence said. “I went on a game-day visit to UAB this season.”

The Blazers led by former NFL QB Trent Dilfer made an impression on the Class of 2028 prospect.

“It was fun and exciting,” Lawrence stated. “Their offensive linemen are big. Their QBs, they throw really well. When they warm up, they throw the ball hard.”

Part of the offseason for Lawrence is developing his overall speed. The indoor track season has already started.

“I’m running the 400 and 60,” Lawrence shared. “I ran with the high school team as an eighth grader.”

Asked about his recent times, Lawrence replied, “In the 400, I ran a 57.20, and in the 60, I ran a 7.59.”

That speed was showcased over the weekend at a Prep Red Zone camp.

“At the Prep Red Zone camp in Murfreesboro (Tenn.) on Saturday, I won MVP,” Lawrence said. “I did well in the one-on-ones, threw no picks, did well in the drills, and I ran a 4.6 40.”
