When it comes to ability, upside, and athleticism, few check all the boxes at receiver the way Class of 2020 rising talent Jordyn Turner does. At 6-5, 168-pounds, he is a nightmare to hem in once inside the red zone, his long arms and quickness helps him off the line at any point on the field, and he has speed to burn leaving corners in his wake in a footrace. The Liberty High School standout is so athletic and with so much potential, he already has scholarship offers for football from Northwestern, Howard, Navy, and Northern Arizona and one from Mississippi State for track.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with the three-star recruit from the Brentwood, California, area to learn more about his game and his early recruiting process.

Interview

Jordyn, you and the rest of the Lions offense have not been kind to opposing defenses this year averaging 48 points per game. What is working so well for you guys on offense this season?

“Honestly, our chemistry has been great. We work well together and if we get something wrong we correct it for the next play.”

What type of offense do you guys execute?

“We do it all, 10-,11-, 20-, and 22-personnel. We are an even based offense mixing between the run and the pass, but we have been geared more toward running lately.”

How are you being used within the offense?

“I am a deep threat. If we need big yards, they will put me in to make a play.”

What are the strengths to your game at this point in your career as a receiver?

“My strengths are my speed, height, agility, my athleticism, and my ability to get off the line.”

What is the best 40-yard dash time you’ve posted?

“My last 40-yard dash was a 4.49 going into sophomore year.”

Your reel shows your speed, I believe you. The Lions just ate up Antioch 52-0 on Friday, how did the game go for you?

“It was good. I got targeted once, but it was out of my reach.”

This week is a bye week for you guys, what is the plan? Are you resting or game planning for Pittsburg?

“We are resting up but doing footwork and working on our fundamental skills. We will prepare for them next week.”

Pittsburg (6-2) is seemingly always a tough team. What kind of game are you expecting from the Pirates’ defense on Oct. 19?

“We are expecting them to be like us – athletic and with a lot of talent. It will be an even game.”

I know you have the four scholarship offers for football, which schools are showing recruiting interest?

“Northwestern is showing a lot of interest. Arizona State and Oregon State are the two main ones.”

Do you play any other sports for Liberty?

“Yes. I run track.”

Which events?

“The 400, 100, 200, and long jump.”

Of the four big events, which is your best?

“My money event is the long jump.”

What is your best jump?

“My best jump is 23-feet.”

Are you receiving any recruiting interest for track?

“Yes. I have a track offer from Mississippi State and USC was looking at me for track.”

Have you had a chance to unofficially visit any schools yet?

“Yes. I have visited Oregon State and ASU.”

Do you have any planned visits upcoming?

“Yes. I am planning on going to Eastern Washington soon.”

Jordyn, thanks for your time today and good luck next week against Pittsburg.

“Thank you.”
