When Deagan Rose (6-3, 200) drops back to pass, there is seemingly nothing complicated about what he is doing but to the trained eye the Class of 2026 talent is doing some amazing next level work. Dropping shots just over the heads of defenders, looking off safeties, 12-yard outs to the wide side of the field – you name it, Rose is doing it for Clovis High School.

The state of California is talent rich at the quarterback position and Rose is doing his part to keep the theme alive. Seven college programs have put scholarships down for the three-star QB.

The offensive attack that fits Rose so well bringing the next level opportunities was discussed, “We run a pro-style offense. We balance a lot of run and pass. Our coach is from Liberty; he was the tight ends coach there. He comes from the college level; he knows what it takes in a high-powered offense.

“We threw more than I expected. I think I threw the ball in the 280 times range. We run a pro-style offense with a lot of quick game.”

Rose spoke about the aspects to his game that has helped him succeed on the gridiron, “I would say I’m not the fastest, but I am hard to get sacked. I’m not comparing myself to Tom Brady, but I have that kind of feel for that pocket. I think I only gave up three sacks last season. I can throw on the run; that got us out of jams. I can throw the deep ball too; I threw 63 yards in the air off-platform.”

To help land more scholarship offers, Rose is hard at work fine tuning his game.

“I am getting bigger, faster, and stronger,” Rose said. “The way things are here at Clovis High, we have one of the best offseason programs. I am trying for sub 5.0 40 (-yard dash). I want to get to that next level. I have been throwing with my QB coach (Greg Panelli); he also trains Josh Allen. Allen is a valley kid; he works with him.

“Coach Panelli was a GA (graduate assistant) at Oregon, he has a college background as well; he knows the mental state. Every day before we throw, we go over coverages and what to do. It is nice to have him, he has been a blessing for me.”

Iowa State, Arkansas, Colorado State, Virginia Tech, Houston, Utah, and Pittsburgh have offered for football with Cal handing over a baseball scholarship as a catcher. More offers are lining up.

Fresno State, they are my hometown school, they are showing interest,” Rose stated. “I am going up to Oregon for a spring practice. Notre Dame is supposed to fly in to see me throw; UCLA watched me throw. Purdue and Washington State are also showing interest.”

From the Bruins, Rose got some pointers after a throwing session.

“UCLA, their QB coach, coach (Cody) Kessler, gave me a lot of tips on my lower body,” Rose shared. “All the sessions went well in my opinion.”

Asked about the upcoming visit with the Ducks, Rose replied, “Obviously, it is Oregon. I have a lot of family up there; it is always nice to visit them. I have been an Oregon fan forever. Marcus Mariota, he is the reason I like the Titans. I like Oregon a lot.”

On the diamond, Arizona, Arizona State, and Fresno State are showing interest in Rose. Asked about being a next level two-sport star, Rose shared, “I am not sure yet. It would be a challenge. Time will tell.”

Working around his baseball schedule, Rose will compete at upcoming camps like the Elite 11 regional.
